I am definitely eating my words. Probably too much in 1500 training I guess
despite both being a primarily aerobic events. 1500m is very different from a 5k, never mind hm. You need a lot of raw speed (I mean something like sub-50 400m FAT) in 1500m which wouldn't translate well to a race that lasts more than 20 mins, let alone almost an hour. It's actually amazing what he has been doing in the 5k DESPITE(not because of) his focus on the 15.
btw, even Cheptegei didn't do well in his debut HM with his 5k/10k focus. Another case in point, Mo Farah who had a great range like Jakob, ran 59 and 3:28, but they're 2 months apart. I was honestly surprised Jakob could still have gone out at 27:30 and hung on at 3:15 per km pace to a 1:03 which indicated he had had at least sub-60 in him with more sensible pacing.
I think there is no WR tomorrow, and in any case Jakob can't run under 58'. I think that, if he wants, can easy better the European Record, running well under 59'.
In my opinion, the current Jakob's level can produce on track the WR of 5000m (very close 12'30") and of 10000m (I think for him running 13'10" + 13' is not a problem, maybe looking to become the first runner under 26' can be a real goal).
But, when we look at HM, this is another story.
it's crazy you've got 18 downvotes for that. The dunning kruger effect is real.

Why "crazy"? I didn't agree with the "running well under 59' ".

You are forgetting one thing which is that Cheptegei doesn’t run the same kind of mileage than Jakob.
I think it all kind of depends on how sensibly he lowered the thresholds and mileage for the Olympics. It’s true that if he has started this change in training around Pre then it’s actually quite far from his actual base. However if you take the normal out of base Jakob who could probably run 3:30 with just threshold and hills, he would definitely perform very good in a HM of that base training without specific work.
Ingebrigtsen operates in that space where a lot of his fans think he's better than he actually is and can do no wrong at any distance, and a lot of his detractors don't think he's as good as Jakob thinks he is.

Chep runs his mileage in rough terrain with lots of hills, while Jakob runs the bulk of his mileage on flat ground or treadmill. (except for hill sprints, obviously). I'm sure they have similar time on feet despite the difference in mileage.
Lmao, you are all hilarious. How many of you said there was ZERO chance he could ever get the HM WR, and it would be years before we even see it? Now everyone’s throwing around ‘WR’ and ‘Jakob’ in the same sentence.
There is a zero percent chance Jakob sets the WR here.
Boy was I disappointed for him and stayed up till 3:30 am to watch this and WTF! He looked like he was having an asthma attack. I've never watched him so unprepared for a race. He should never have done this. If he were going to run a half he should have done Valencia in December when he was in the middle of his distance running block. He embarrassed himself and I don't want to hear any more talk of 10 world records. He is a 5k track runner, one of the best in history and he should be happy with that. Now if this was just a bad race, even the greats have them, we remember joshua cheptegei crashing and burning in 2017 world champs cross country champs "
. So I don't want to be too hard on Jakob, but like these other athletes especially Cheptegei, Jakob must came back bigger and stronger to erase this horrible performance!
He won Olympic gold in Tokyo and in Paris. Kerr talked up a storm and had his arrogant ass handed to him. He has yet to acknowledge Hocker is his master after Paris and Zurich while Jakob said the three ahead of him in Paris were the best on the day. Kerr is obviously as big a fluke as Wightman. Go take your Geritol and handle your sundowners syndrome you bitter old fart.
A baller who constantly loses. Others win the races that matter. Just a loser.
You are right, Jakob is a loser. But who is the winner? Who are others? Josh? Probably yes, according you. He won 2015 EJC, 2016 EC, 2017 WC, 2018 EC, 2019 WC, 2021 OG, 2022 EC, 2022 WC, 2023 WC, 2024 WIC,2024 OG.
