Well, all those magic powers ascribed to their high school and wealth and so on have vanished with the departure of the Brosnans and what do you know but they're no longer a national power. Still, they are pretty good and have a good foundation to continue to be good on this league level with 5 of the top 6 in the girls jv and 4/5 in the boys jv race. No team in my own hs league in Northern California ever came close to averaging 15:30s, which is about what the boys did this time. They're a damn sight from their 14:30s or better ability in the past but they're still better than the vast majority of teams in the country--just not high NXN level. That league is no joke.
You know what else vanished when Brosnan left? The talented kids coming into the program.
Look at the comparison of the the talent that was on the team (based on middle school 1600 times of the top kids) on this year's team compared with Brosnan's time at the helm. Which team would you guess would be better? There is no way the 2023 team would be expected to be as good as the 2019 team with that talent discrepancy. Never mind the luck of having the Youngs and Sahlmans; the other kids on that 2019 were REALLY good before they came to NP as well. Who couldn't dominate with that team?
2023 1 – didn’t run youth 2 – 5:00 3- 5:37 4- 4:51 5- didn’t run youth 6 – 5:04 7 – 4:56 8- didn’t run youth 9- 5:34 10- didn't run youth
Looking at the area youth track results from the Spring of 2023, there weren't any but 1 sub 4:50 8th grade boy so its not that the talent is choosing to NOT go to NP, there just wasn't that talent to go to NP
This youth coach you guys are complaining about was the very guy coaching the feeder team of "incredibly talented" kids who went on to Newbury Park. When he got miracle results then, it was just the kids having talent; when he gets lesser results now, the kids aren't talented and no one could do it with this lack of talent, right? But as someone says above, 2020/2021 wreaked havoc on middle school track #'s, so it's much harder to judge.
Dude, you just proved the point. He coached both the 2019 team kids and the current kids as youth. He wasn’t a better coach when the 2019 kids were on his youth team than he was when the current NP kids were on his youth team, yet the 2019 kids were way better than the current kids. Strangely enough, the 2019 team, with better youth runners, was a better high school team than the current team, who weren’t nearly as good as youth. It’s wild how that works, isn’t it?
I would challenge anyone to find a high school team that has ever had the amount of kids with the youth times like the 2019 NP had.
actually the feeder program that the Youngs and Sahlman's came from was NOT coached by him.

Yet the faster group of kids coming into high school, were the faster group of kids in high school, right?
None of them were coached by Brosnan before high school.
it’s mind boggling that the Brosnan disciples just refuse to acknowledge he was dealt a royal flush, because it takes away from claiming he is the greatest high school of all time. He did a really good job getting a lot of really talented kids to mostly progress (not all) through high school. It seems impossible to deny there was a larger group of more talented kids during his time than what is there now, although there is still a solid group at NP.
I'm not denying that Brosnan was given the deck of talent, but it wasn't talent alone. There were kids running faster than that deck in Youth Track that went to other high schools and went on to do nothing special in High School. Not saying my a Brosnan fan, but it takes both to have accomplished what they did. The current crop of kids at NP seem to be doing well and progressing. If you removed the Young's and Sahlman's from the bell curve everyone would be saying that, but those two group of kids reset everyone's idea of "Good" for better or worse.
Brosnan is the best HS coach is history and that’s fact. Many coaches get sub 5min kids. No one did that the Newberry kids did under Brosnan in US history.
He might have burned the brightest, but nobody has even come close to Aris in terms of pure dominance. 11 nxn wins in 12 years ( the one loss they came in second) from a smaller school is absurd. Thats completely different groups of runners. In fact the 2010 FM girls even had a lower team score at NXN than the 2021 NP boys did at runninglane.
Brosnan is top tier, but definitely not the best xc coach in US history.

And look the FM roster now. Still coached by Aris. They only have 9 boys and 9 girls on the team. FM boys team wasn’t close to qualifying for state this year, but the FM girls team is top 5 in NY
I am the dweller on the temperate threshold, The strip of corn and vine, Where all is translucence (the light!) Liquidity, and the sound of water. Here the days pass under shade And the nights have the waxing and the waning moon. Here the moths take flight at evening; Here at morning the dove whistles and the pigeons coo. Here, as night comes on, the fireflies wink and snap Close to the cool ground, Shining in a profusion

Thanks for the rational response. Of course there are multiple factors and coaching is one of them. There is no question NP was the greatest team in history and obviously that wouldn’t be possible without solid coaching. Unfortunately we’ll never really find out where Brosnan would stack up against the all time greats because the dominance was so short lived. If he could replicate similar results with a completely different group of kids or at a different school, it would erase doubt. Until he does that, it’s hard to put him in the class of Aris, Soles, Newton, Tyson and some others who were on top for much longer.
Brosnan took a below average UCLA team and broke school records and saw many All-Americans in one year. Something that UCLA had not seen on a long time on the distance side. Taking a 4:01 guy to 3:54 in the mile and taking a women’s DMR to running 10:48 ( altitude con) at indoor NCAA’s. Indoor 13:36, 7:54 indoor PRs for the men. Multiple Women running under 4:20 in the 1500m and top women running 4:08. Steeplechase men 8:35, and women’s 9:52. A few low 3:40’s in the 1500m for men. That’s a damn impressive coach in one year all with the team having no all-Americans the year before. I’m sure I missed some. That’s was a quick 10min search. My guess is Brosnan is a leader and creates and elite environment. This is obvious with his teams. The man gets results and I would say he’s the best High School coach in history and knows how to get his athletes to run fast at all levels.
He disappeared in the dead of winter: The brooks were frozen, the airports almost deserted, And snow disfigured the public statues; The mercury sank in the mouth of the dying day. What instruments we have agree The day of his death was a dark cold day. Far from his illness The wolves ran on through the evergreen forests, The peasant river was untempted by the fashionable quays; By mourning tongues The death of the poet was kept from his poems. But for him it was his last afternoon as himself, An afternoon of nurses and rumours; The provinces of his body revolted, The squares of his mind were empty, Silence invaded the suburbs, The current of his feeling failed; he became his admirers. Now he is scattered among a hundred cities And wholly given over to unfamiliar affections, To find his happiness in another kind of wood And be punished under a foreign code of conscience. The words of a dead man Are modified in the guts of the living. But in the importance and noise of to-morrow When the brokers are roaring like beasts on the floor of the Bourse, And the poor have the sufferings to which they are fairly accustomed, And each in the cell of himself is almost convinced of his freedom, A few thousand will think of this day As one thinks of a day when one did something slightly unusual. What instruments we have agree The day of his death was a dark cold day.

He had some bright spots with a couple individuals making some nice improvements. He also had quite a few people not improve or get worse and ended up getting 2 of his top 3 injured and unable to finish the year. Without adding Mia Barnett (which got him in trouble) his women's DMR wouldn't have done anything of note.
From top to bottom the team was basically the same as it was the year before he showed up and top it all off, he got fired. His employer wasn't nearly as impressed with his performance in his one year of coaching. In cross, when the team was average and didn't improve from the year before, it was because the 6 months was not enough to make an impact, but when Mia Barnett drags their DMR to relevance after being on campus for a few weeks, it's his coaching that made it possible.
What strikes me about the Brosnan fan club is that anything good that happens is because of him and anything bad that happens is not his fault.
Brosnan a very good coach and when people try to say the opposite you’re going to get slack for it. His accomplishments as a coach are unprecedented. Hating is the sincerest form of flattery.

His accomplishments as a coach are unprecedented? Are you new to track and field? There are a few other coaches (the list is a bit too long) that would like to have a word with you.
Now as I was young and easy under the apple boughs About the lilting house and happy as the grass was green, The night above the dingle starry, Time let me hail and climb Golden in the heydays of his eyes, And honoured among wagons I was prince of the apple towns And once below a time I lordly had the trees and leaves Trail with daisies and barley Down the rivers of the windfall light. And as I was green and carefree, famous among the barns About the happy yard and singing as the farm was home, In the sun that is young once only, Time let me play and be Golden in the mercy of his means, And green and golden I was huntsman and herdsman, the calves Sang to my horn, the foxes on the hills barked clear and cold, And the sabbath rang slowly In the pebbles of the holy streams.

Getting fired in less than a year is certainly unprecedented. Not sure getting someone to run 3:51 is unprecedented.

Dev Doshi is the leg winner to the conF show
The winner gave him the same portion. I noticed that also
