I understand the sarcasm, but figuring anything out as it relates to the race they are selecting for does not enter the thinking in any way. Considering the difficulty they had getting any city to bid for the trials at all, I suspect location, date and time is all about money for USATF.
IMO cream rises to the top. The atlanta 2020 course was stupid, way too hilly and they had plenty of wind. Galen rupp showed up and buried the entire field, do you think that if the race was run on a record-type course the results would have been any different? If they were running on the chicago course with 45 degree weather do you think Scott Fauble or Jared Ward would have run 1-2? IMO people make too big of a deal about different marathon courses. Whether you are running Valencia or you are running NYC, its still 26 miles of putting one leg in front of the other. the guy who has the aerobic strength to crush the hills in NY is probably the same guy who is going to have the engine to drop the field in valencia.
In an american context, if they ran the trials on a pancake flat TT-type course, the guy who runs away with it is by definition the strongest, and most likey the guy who would handle the hills in paris the best.
Isn't the issue that the US has yet to secure any spots in the Olympic Men's Marathon, so a fast course with good weather could potentially help in that regard?
Athletes, coaches, agents and shoe companies need to get together and speak with a unified voice against this stupidity. Athletes need to follow the lead of other pro sports and get organized either with a union or at least an association.
Sisson, Bates, and D’Amato all generally run quite well in heat/humidity. Tuliamuk too. Seidel also obviously did in Tokyo (Sapporo) but I don’t know if that’s the norm for her. I feel like Sara Hall sometimes struggles in heat, no? Trying to think of any of the top competitors are at an advantage/disadvantage in terms of how they typically do in hot conditions.
Average high in paris in August is lower than the average high in orlando in january/february.
But Paris marathon will be in morning so should be cooler.

I can't find the weather for this race listed, but if I remember correctly Daws wrote it was in the 80s or 90s in one of his books. Winner was over 2:30.
Though the national marathon championship the year before was held in 92 degree weather in Holyoke, MA. Winning time was over 2:40..... for men.

Its also not very humid there. But you wouldn't race a marathon in 95 I bet. There is a reason why there are like no races over 10k from april to october in Phoenix.
Everyone is missing the real problem, it's not the heat or humidity.
They are running back and forth for two hours next to a busy highway in heat and humidity.
Florida does not have car inspections or vehicle enforcement of any kind.
There are hundreds upon hundreds of pickups using electronic (or physical) exhaust bypass because they are never checked, never caught, they think it's fine to save a few dollars per tank while spraying their poison everywhere.
Even without bypass, at highway speeds the diesel particulate in exhaust are toxic as hell.
Florida cities have some of the worst air quality around, no sane person would run next to a Florida highway, certainly not at a high level effort.
But hey don't take my word for it, it's been studied by so many people they made a word for it "TRAP" (Traffic-Related Air Pollution) google it yourself

It was not humid in Athens, that’s why the warmth wasn’t a bigger factor.
Don't be an idiot. It was 95F at the start of the race. Times were slow and there was carnage on the course, most famously Paula Radcliffe. Heat was a huge factor.
If they hold it at 8 am very few people west of Kansas will watch and almost no one on the West Coast. Not that it makes sense for the athletes, but just sayin'...
No one is watching, and yea, 30k people is "no one" in a country of 350 million.
Domestic viewership was just over a million for the 2020 American marathon trials. That’s what a terrestrial broadcast is worth as opposed to a streaming service.

The outcry for a NOON start in Orlando needs to be NOW. The fact that it is 7 months away people either think this is an argument for later or don’t believe it’s going to happen. If we get to 6 months out there will be no chance to change things. The time to act is NOW.
There is a reason that this is not posted yet. USATF is planning to spring it on us once we can’t change things. Trust me NBC has already said they want a noon start and USOPC basically falls in line. USATF is a scared little puppy that doesn’t want to upset NBC.
As a Floridian a noon start is foolish at best.

The idea of running at Daytona was a good thought. They could add a few waves of NASCAR Beer miles to make a bit of profit. You can bet the NASCAR fans would race when beer is involved. That would, in fact, get a lot of Florida runners to show up. A chance at a Beer Mile on the Daytona track could be fun.
And why men and women are going to race nearly at the same time?! They could easily do 8am and 9:30am vs 12:10 and 12:20.
It's all about Max "Kickback" Seigel selling the broadcast rights. NBC or whomever wants the smallest possible window and to be able to shove as many ads into the overlap of men and women.
He's drained millions from USATF, right out in the open, all public, lots of million-dollar tax shenanigans but no prison time somehow.
