Alfred has the 4x400 left and ofili is going for four events as well in the 100, 4x1, 4x400, and 200 so her and steiner will be pretty stacked come Saturday saying they make the final for the 200 and 4x400
Steiner blows her wad early, as usual — 22.03 (0.5) PB and MR in the heats.
Did she and Ofili run the 4x4 prelims?
If so, I would have to take Ofili for the 200 final, she runs much easier than Steiner; and also Alfred in the 100, the early gap proving too much to bridge.
If I’m right about Steiner, then what does she do at nationals? Better shot in the 1 or the 2? I think she has to do the 1, because of the relay. I think the 4 relay is maybe too deep, if McLaughlin etc try for it.
But at the end of the day, I know nothing—except that Saturday’s racing should be great to watch!
I'm gonna go with the 200, she's #3 in the US rn, granted Prandini, Battle, Sturgis, and others haven't run close to what they could run, but she could beat Brittany Brown I believe in the trials. The 100 is going to be another 10.9-off, but personally my favorites to make the 100 team are Richardson, Terry, and Hobbs, but like there's 10 women who have run 10.90-11.00 in the US this season, and the only two faster are Sturgis and Melissa Jefferson, who just ran another 10.9 👀
I did previously note that Battle has been running her best of the year over the past 5 weeks, but the 100 was so deep it was tough to qualify (and her time was a little lower than her recent 100's).
Her 200 has been creeping down over the past five weeks and she does have that great personal best under 200, but that was a quite awhile ago.
I think she's got a decent shot for third, but there just seems to be nobody close to the Ofili-Steiner times in the 200 this year.
It's hard to imagine anyone else but them going 1 and 2.
1) RG3 has immediately become the best track announcer. The man knows the athletes better than any of the other announcers -- he is obvious a huge track nerd -- and he's both thoughtful and generous. He's just great.
2) I like the Women's NCAA this year better than the Men's. More good story lines. The three-headed women's 100 meters (if not more), the Abby-Favour 200 meters, the unprecendented quality of the 400 meter field (including the great 4v400 meter relay squads), Tuohy vs. Mercy in the 5K ... very compelling.
Only 1 point from NC State in the 800m + 1500m + 3000mSC + 10000m?
Hays got 5th in 10k so that is 4 points. The 1500s with who they had there would have been a stretch, but they should have been closer to making final at a minimum. Outside of Steelman they had no real steeplechasers - their next best got injured or sick or something. And they just don't have a good 800m runner.
I meant 1 point scorer, not 1 single point, sorry. Not much firepower. Obviously that will change in the 5000m.
ok....but thus far BYU and CO aren't lighting the world on fire in the distance events either. Actually, outside of the 5000, the CO distance program looks the toughest (cue Astro with transfers/age/altitude training - just kidding). they should score in 1500, 3000s, 5000 in addition to 10000. But NC St might put 5 in top 12 or something in the 5000.

CU has the best 24 year old red shirt Covid transfer seniors in the game.
And what will the Covid underclassmen be in a few years? Provided they graduate, which I assume they will, they could graduate-transfer to pursue a postgraduate degree and be on the older side of the equation as well.
There is certainly no shame in pursuing an education while continuing to train and seeing what you can do in a sport you both excel at and enjoy.

I am starting to wonder how well Nichols will do tomorrow. Covert has not been at the level she showed a month ago. Probably unrelated, but it has me wondering.
But the worst man would beat the best woman in every event. It is like saying minor league sports are more compelling than major league sports.
And from my perspective, that would be equally true.
What, the NCAA’s are “less compelling” than the Diamond League? What a joke. Hack all-comer’s meets are equally compelling if you have an active mind and understand what you’re watching.
Yesterday my wife taught an uncoordinated 10-yr old to do a proper cartwheel. The thrill of victory was there, very compelling.
If you can’t taste the sweet nectar that is life, it is you who is the loser.
Sprintgeezer - Can you please explain how Steiner "blew her wad early, as usual" this year?
SEC Indoor Championships Prelims - 22.44 Final - 22.09
NCAA Indoors Prelims - 22.45 Final - 22.16
SEC Outdoor Championships Prelims - 22.38 Final - 22.07
NCAA East Preliminary Round First Round - 22.19 Quarterfinal - 22.01
Good bunch of stats.
2 things—1. I meant that she expends energy, with her running style, more than does her main competition like Ofili, or in the pros like maybe Prandini. Did she need to run the prelim times you posted in order to qualify, and might she have gone faster in those respective finals had she dialed it back?
2. Does that mean she will go 21.6 in the final, given her prelim time? Yes I get that you were focusing on the “as usual” part—see (1) above.
IMO it was finally a smart move to not have run the 400 prelim. A critical move, actually. It gives her an actual shot.
