Yes, private. No recruiting however. There is a firewall between athletics and admissions at the level of selection. It could be that good middle school runners tend to apply because of the school's xc and track reputation. I do agree, however, that in CA the best D5 schools are all pretty much white, privileged and wealthy. That is true of NP too. As has been discussed on these boards many times, this is a complicated issue, but there is no doubt it plays a major role in which programs have the best chance to succeed. A month at altitude camp is unreal privilege in hs. When I was in hs, I worked a job all summer and ran alone before and/or after work.

Newbury Park coach raises that money himself for that Big Bear trip. This has been duchesses many times. All coaches can do this, but most coaches are just lazy.

They do not have kids on that team paying for this trip much at all. The MB's are just a bunch of cancer coaches trying to create drama that is not there.

Well, at the end of the day, you put together a regional all-star team, you out train everybody else, you spend the summer at altitude. You coach in an affluent area, kids and families have resources, maybe most of the team develops asthma and now uses inhalers, who knows.

we have seen it at FM, they outworked everybody and lived the Stotan lifestyle, and Bill Aris is a great motivator.

We saw it at Great Oak, another town with a regional draw, they out trained everybody else, affluent area with resources and Doug bottom of the foot got them to buy in.

we saw it at York, build a huge team and out work everybody, the 1000 mile summers etc. Joe Newton was also a great motivator

And, remember Gary Indiana and Dan C., got a couple of guys to buy in and Rudy Chapa led three under 9:00 for a full 2 mile and also happened to run 28:32 for 10k, not too shabby.

And now it's NP's turn.

Why are you so passionately defensive? Even if it’s paid for, most kids that age have summer jobs or other responsibilities and can’t take a month at altitude camp. Your undies are in a complete bind if anyone offers any possible reasons other than the coach is the second coming and is 100% responsible for creating this team with his own hands from absolute nothing. Relax, your guy is a good coach.

Pretty this would have violated a dozen of my states rules for high school runners.... I doubt altitude camp helps a ton but getting those kids a structures environment to train in does. And not to Be cynical, but how much of the raised money comes from kids on the teams parents. I know at my school teams raised money like this and most of it always came from one or two big donors. I am just waiting for a team who provides altitude tents for their varsity😋

In the end though this awesome and raises the level of the whole sport.

Few Thoughts:

1) Don Sage is competitive with NP's Top 4 and maybe even wins. Guy ran 4:00.2x mile in old spikes and ran 8:42 with a 57 second last lap only flat out in the last 450. Yes this was in the spring ,but if he was doing perfect time trial meets as a junior he wouldn've run great times then. He finished 2nd in a strong FL, enough said.

2) But echoing everyone else here NP wipes the floor with York in the team competition

3) I'd kinda say what NP is doing is what teams do for the Little League World Series. They're pooling together the best talent from the region. That's how teams in the LLWS are, and they would crush organically put-together teams for the most part pooling from just one high school area/town. That being said, Brosnan is an excellent coach and runs a professionalized program that is maximizing what these kids do.

Is it correct to say that Brosnan is training all these guys with the expectation that they can be 14:00-15:30 5k guys?

I think the big paradigm shift comes from working towards that goal rather than just trying to get a little faster (i.e. taking a 17:30 guy and trying to giving him workouts to get him to 17:15)

So you just raise the ceiling and try to get as fit as possible instead of doing so much work at current fitness pace.

I think Bosnan expects the top 4 to all break 14 in a track 5k.

I think he is training the rest of the team to be 14:00-15:30.

FYI: the Woodbridge course is absolutely a legit 3 miles. Several respected coaches have already wheeled it more than once. Even the GPS trackers all showed 3.03 or 3.04. The nighttime atmosphere changes everything.

All of NP’s top 4 ran faster then Jace Aschbrenner did in the same course 2 years ago. They all definitely have to be in the top 25 in the Milesplit rankings, and I wouldn’t be surprised if all 4 are all Americans at NXN.

I assume the coach is challenging the team to perfect score it. I expect 4 in the top 8.

Multiple coaches wheeled Peoria and Runninglane also and the GPS results confirmed the distance. Anytine people run fast, the course is short unless on a track and then they are doping.

Top 25? More like 4 in top 4-8. I think only Larry Edwards and Gavin Sherry could break them up based on what we know today. But we’ll who else emerges by December.
