Also everyone saying he should have run 100 meters and dropped out are just plain dumb. A real competitor isn't going to embarrass themselves dropping out just to say you started a race. A real competitor believes that they will be back to that moment so they don't need to do some glory job to say "I am an Olympian". Would Jordan play 30 seconds in a finals game just to say he started a finals game and then leave the court because he is injured? No Jordan would rehab and come back the next year to dominate.

We had pregnant women run in the Olympic marathon trials.

This is overkill for someone who didn't even race and for another person who isn't even in Toyko.

Talk about how the USA looked great in the men's 110H and 200m or about Reece in the women's LJ getting silver or Harrison's silver in the 100H or Allman winning gold in the Discus.

All this BS talk about a 1500 runner not running, who was a long long long long shot of medaling and the 4th place guy at the trials is nonsense.

That speculation is silly. Yeah, the ND coach likes XC. But the feather in his cap for coaching Naguse to the Olympic finals would be worth more.

I don't think it has anything to do with the following cross country season. I DO however think this is poor athlete management by Carlson. Can someone confirm that the USIOC was notified? "arose on a stride"? Come on that is total BS. Hamstrings don't heal overnight. This should be a great lesson going forward that alternates should travel. Literally, ZERO reason when the US has multiple athletes at home with the standard that we cannot put 3 athletes on the line. The second an inkling of the injury arose Engels should have made to trip. Whether to race or sit on standby. It embarrassing only having 2 athletes when others can race. Not sure who to blame but it is definitely not on Yared.

Engels been partying the whole season, that's how he missed the team. Rather have Nuguse DNS than having that clown on the team.

He should have started and dropped out (limping) by 100 meters.

Or, he should have given up his spot in time for Engles (because he knew of his injury long enough before).

I remember when a friend Dorio started a race injured and took a few steps and dropped out. I forget exactly what she told me. Maybe it was something about a contract. It's different today though.

Nuguse is a US Olympic Team member but not an Olympian (to older Olympians like me).

Engels could have made the team outright if he would race with better tactics.

All that fuss, whinging and moaning over Nuguse's Tokyo DNS. Fast-forward, did that ever really matter?
