It's Trump and nothing but Trump. I have no doubt that if Obama had been president during this we'd have followed a pattern closer to Europe - a bad first 8 weeks and then sorted it out like they did and NY did.
But Trump has turned science into politics and enough people believe Trump when the president tells them to ignore the scientists that governors, mayors and right wing media people have been pushed into a corner of anti-mask, anti-social distancing.
Perfect example of a country rotting like a fish: from the head.

So you guys support devastation over flatten the curve and minimize overall deaths; I get it, it is about politics for you. Any way you can praise Cuomo's mass murder, you will find a way.

Agreed...We have smaller outbreaks in more places....everywhere that has outbreaks now is and has dealt with the virus in a smarter and more effective manner. When will people admit that NY failed, NJ failed, etc; CA did not fail but are still struggling. We will see with Texas; the verdict is still out so rather than people being condescending jerks, when really you have no clue what is right, you could offer some support, hope and optimism for those now struggling rather than root for their demise; some Americans are just awful.

I don't think that you'll find many that think NY and NJ handled their initial outbreaks well.

7/28 Data
all analysis: from 7 day rolling average of daily deaths.
The giant bad tsunami of virus is starting to break up and become smaller waves, varying in size.
The world is on a 4 day plateau - its long upward swing of deaths has stalled.
But the US just keeps getting worse - hitting new cyclical highs
The good news is Brazil - it has had a significant improvement in the last few days. That country's death toll is the lowest since early July.
In fact, if you look at the world ex-Brazil...that measure is getting worse. So the 'world's' improvement is really just a good week from Brazil. Oh well.
The problem states in the US aren't moving as one anymore.
FL: all time highs
CA: all time highs
AZ: uneven data but seems to be improving.
TX: Starting to form a plateau.
Add all 4 problem states into one superstate of death and its 7 day average is still making new all time highs, but only 14% higher than a week ago. That number has been falling toward 0. It should go negative in a couple weeks.

Over 150,000 Americans have died of COVID-19.
Testing is useless in stopping the spread.
The only tool we have that really works is a lockdown.
It's time to lock down again and do it right this time.
Lest you forget. Lockdowns were tried early on and look where we are now.
We've never had a nationwide lockdown. We did not take advantage of the extra time that lockdowns allowed to develop a nationwide test-trace-isolate program. We are a failed country.

Dude, what clan? Man, I think you are the problem...why consider people awful for viewing things differently; they are not being mean to anybody, they are just living. I guess I should of said some people are arrogantly mean, and that is an awful thing. Currently, there is not one clear path through this pandemic and there never will be and I have rarely observed people out there carelessly harming or intentionally harming others; this is just a lie made up by people with a range of extreme positions. People should change and this problem will not get fixed because half the problem is the nasty people out there who can't see that they are the ones who need to change.

Like I said. The lockdowns failed. You can come up with any excuses you want, but it is fact that the lockdowns failed.
216 Deaths added overnight and a new record in Florida. It's great and all that the Mortality Rate is lower, but if you do basically nothing and let cases get out of control you will have a lot of deaths. On the "positive" side, the recent case numbers/positivity rate are lower than the worst of it a couple weeks back.

troll.
I am for learning. NY, NJ and CT figured it out, after making mistakes and losing a lot of lives. Manhattan has only a couple COVID deaths per day now.
TX, AZ, FL and other Red states chose not to learn the lessons learned in the Northeast. Makes for a lot of wasted lives. Would have been nice to think that all the dead Americans in the Northeast at least taught a lesson to save other lives. But nah. Little was learned. Rs are still telling people not to wear masks and pushing to open bars.

Also if you look at the graphs of Florida for cases and deaths (the precise ones showing when each happens), it's becoming increasingly consistent for roughly every 100 cases, you have around one death. Obviously there're plenty of people who are asymptomatic and not being tested. Still, with Florida holding steady at ~9,000 cases a day that means that 3-4 weeks from now we will be reporting 90 deaths a day even as we are hopefully well past the peak.
It's a shame.
FYI GA changed its reporting graphs - easier to read now, I think

That is a big improvement. You can now really see how the inland rural communities in the southeastern part of the state are getting hit hard in the current outbreak. A lot of the small counties are seeing their positives double over the last two weeks.

No. It's a pandemic, stupid. Sweden eschewed a lockdown, and their economy for a little performed a hair better than their neighbors (rather insignificant), but the carnage of the virus now puts them in worse position than their neighbors.
People changed their behaviors regardless of any lockdowns and the economic pain was inevitable.

No, you were not mean to me, but your attitude is one of arrogance when you really have no clue what you are talking about and what response is actually appropriate; nobody really does. Don't call people stupid when you are clearly acting stupid and childish. Children don't solve problems, adults do. Maybe it is time to grow up a little?

None of Sweden's neighbors actually went into full lock down either (they did a lot of targeted things and pushed businesses to encourage work at home) and many opened schools very early on after Easter; so the effects on nearby economies should not be too similar as none of those countries shut their economies down. Don't call people stupid when you clearly don't even know what you are talking about. Sweden did very little and still performed better than the Euro nations that enacted forced lockdowns. Why? Because forced stay at home orders DO NOT WORK and have repeated shown this across the globe in the form of higher deaths per capita. Smart approaches require smart people, unlike yourself. Right now we have too many self-righteous people forcing their misguided will on people and killing them in the process; it is a tragedy at best, a crime at worst. Stop mocking people with your unsupported views and try to think with people to solve a problem. A disgrace.
