So, when I see genetic specimens like this guy (who can train consistently & run very fast without injury because of their exceptional genetics), I don't get all excited and start drooling. I realize guys like him couldn't achieve those accomplishments one bit without superb genetics while genetic scum like me can barely even run!
actually, it does seem like you get all excited...
short report (it's finals week for me): all i know from this weekend in bethlehem is the simple reminder that doing the work gives you a chance, but there are never any guarantees on race day. i ran hard in the mud--definitely not favorable for an old miler with a general disdain for x-c running--but still felt like i underperformed. that said, much of my individual disappointment was mitigated by our team getting 2nd to an incredible west valley squad, and any small fragments of disappointment remaining were completely erased by the always fun mix of camaraderie and beverages post-race. by the way, OGII, i know we've met, but i have a horrible memory for names and faces--20+ years of learning names of students has seemed to diminish the storage capacity in my brain, or, alternatively, has made it effective and efficient when i see the person five days in a row while deleting all other names. or i could just blame genetics...
on to the next one in OGII's backyard in january, where i'll make sure i stop by to say hello...
