I wonder whether The Running Channel presenters just kinda don't like running anymore, or if they are obliged to "stay in their lane" so they can continue to appeal to the same set of runners without improving too much to be unrelatable?
For example, Tom is paid to run but if he improved he wouldn't be appealing to the parkrun walkers he currently inspires. Same for Sarah's appeal to 4hr marathoners.
Tom genuinely hates running. Which is fine, not everyone has to like what I like. But it's insulting to the viewers of their channel that he gets wheeled out as some some of running enthusiast. At least most of the other presenters seem to actually want to run and improve a bit.
Sarah enjoys running, but has no idea how to train consistently or how to control intensity. She went all in on her Rotterdam build to get sub 3.30, but now she's totally cooked and has lost anything she gained during that build and then some. Which is fine, not everyone has to have a detailed understanding of training theory, but then it's insulting to viewers when she makes podcasts and videos on topics as if she's in any way qualified to advise people on how to train. She answers viewer questions on training on the podcast FFS!
Is it really too much to ask that presenters on the running channel 1) actually like running and 2) can practice what they preach in terms of training advice?!
Sarah is actually the perfect person for TRC because he is the exact same as about 90% of runners. They enjoy going to races (preferably big city races with 10k+ entrants) and taking a starting line selfie and a finish line selfie but they don't actually enjoy the training needed to get there.
I've seen people who hit their 4 hour marathon target saying "the hard work paid off" and when you look on Strava it's like a rollercoaster with biggest week having 40k of mileage and 32k of it on the long run.
Anyone who takes a selfie on every run is strange. No one cares. Literally no one. It's like the Strava warriors who think people actually look at their spits. People see a run, give kudos and move on. No one cares.
I didn't even need to look at the comments to know who you were talking about, that lad isn't the full ticket. He did a load of 150-200km weeks last winter as he was "inspired by RTJ" until he inevitably picked up a stress fracture.
I had not appreciated his dedication to his hero. I noticed on another comment him commenting how he needed his weekly fix of either an RTJ video or at least a livestream. He's Jake's Jed Maxwell. Just as well he hasn't moved to Japan.
If RJT is seriously injured, there is really only one solution combining both his need for content and his need for a miracle, mystic cure, and that solution comes from the OG himself, SJD:
Jake needs to take the train to Mt. Fuji and film a two-hour poncho walk.
Do it, Jake! In the words of JMarc: GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT!
Matt Fox rinse and repeats the same 5 topics again and manages to bring out another podcast. Self-awareness remains as absent as a clean women's marathon world record as he seems to direct the blame at another former co-host of his slopcast.
listen I can't stand fenton as much as the next guy but he was in the elite field of a race designated by BA as british road champs. let's not let hatred cloud critical thinking
But he’s just not elite. How a race organizer establishes who gets to run in their “elite field” isn’t a regulated term and is often pretty weak times, especially for large 10k races. Even someone like me, with no social media, gets to run in “elite” fields at road championship designated races (and have won small races being referred to as the “first elite male”), but I am able to keep perspective and I’m not an elite runner. Also, even if someone were to win a gold medal, it doesn’t excuse being a smug prick. Maybe it’s less offensive than when a barista with a YouTube channel is a smug prick, but it’s never ok.
Are you possibly confusing 'elite' with 'professional'?
>Says that Luke stopped coming on the podcast after he "confronted" (his words not mine) him for going out too fast in Osaka and blowing up.
>Said through gritted teeth that it was all good with "Mike" (not his name) Fox and it was just scheduling conflicts which meant that they missed a few podcasts.
>Being magnanimous lasted for all of 40 seconds and then he started ranting about how he was leaving him on read and how he thinks the reason for this is because he is secretly jealous of him because he gets to travel the world (last time he travelled he ended up in jail for drug smuggling).
>Remarked that he can never get women on the podcast because for some strange reason they don't reply to his DMs
NBA player Stephen Curry signed a 10 year contract with Li-Ning. China really is taking over. Influncers would hit it big if they can sign a shoe contract.

Surely he could walk up Mt. Fuji wearing that exoskeleton thing he was shilling?
He's clearly talented, but the grift could not be more obvious. The push for obvious overconsumption with all the shoe reviews (seriously, what differentiates a "daily" trainer vs. a trainer for "fun daily miles"), to taking every sponsorship/ brand deal under the sun, and now getting in on the coaching scam. Dude has been running for like 4 years and benefits from the natural talent/ extreme high mileage combo that 99.9% of people he "coaches" will break down from.
everyone knows who the guy is running the account now right? like he's been ID'd and is nobody like calling him out or giving him crap on his own personal social media? surprised if not. but regardless, very much agree with you...the lad must have a mental illness if he's still this obsessed with maintaining an instagram account to call out running times of influencers and nitpicking race results. truly a weird thing to do and continue on with, especially once it's been revealed you're the looney behind it..is nobody bashing the guy or is he just that off the rails that he doesnt even care people know he's behind the account. i'd be quite embarrassed to be uncovered as the maniac who is fixating on marathon times of people that no one should really care about given they're not pros and trying to call out 'integrity'. truly pathetic and the guy has nothing better to do than double down on his silly ig account?
His comments are all overwhelmingly positive, it’s known here and on Reddit he’s a pleb but on instagram he seems to only get praise (or he deletes anything else so that’s the appearance), if you called him out there you’d probably get piled on by the hybrid lads who feed his ego as he calls out other hybros and instahuns that are not really runners and don’t know any better or just wanna use the graphic cause it’s easier. Mad hobby he’s got.
he ran the yamagata ekiden for a regional nanyo team, which featured some members of the ND soft corporate team he's training with.
as far as i can tell, the yamagata ekiden is all regional teams, not corporate teams. ND soft had members in several different regional teams (idk how they decide who goes where - maybe it's about where you live or maybe it's arbitrary). i think the teams are made up of amateur and corp runners alik
There’s a running meme page on instagram that just made a song out of the DMs they received from an Olympian and I need to know who the Olympian is if true as it’s unhinged 😂heapsgoodrunners
I saw this on my IG despite no longer following Heapsgoodrunners and I'm also very curious. Shelby seems a strong candidate. Also, maybe it's just me, but does anyone else get slightly similar vibe to the official unofficial marathon time guy? I used to find heaps good pretty funny but going back through their postings I see so many generic "running memes" that you could find on so many other accounts. Like how many pages need to post the same image of the "25 minute 5ker gear vs 15 minute 5ker gear" pointing out that many slow runners have the full Alphafly, pro kit setup and the fast "blokes" just need "splitties and a pack o' darts, mate." Also they clearly have their favorite runners, much like Citius, where they can do no wrong and will always play nice but evidently this Olympian in their DMs is not in the protected class and it seems like they were going after them to some extent. Going forward I'm being very skeptical about Aussie running social media pages!

I think I saw them having “banter” as the wankers call it with OMTIU and turned me right off too.

This is a very good call. Some of the stuff was funny when they first made the page many years ago, particularly because we didn't really have much Aussie running content, but the last few years it's become incredibly cringe and yea he's collabed already with the OMTIU guy. Heapsgoodrunners also will never throw shade at MTC/For The Kudos people. The guy who runs the account has actually been interviewed on For the Kudos, and to no one's surprise, he doesn't even run much and is a total nerd.
