Because they are shilling snake oil electrolyte powders. Even when he was running a winter half in horrific conditions Jody was trying to sell it. Runners don't need overpriced salt powder, especially in the UK
Honestly, I’m willing to give influencers the benefit of the doubt when it comes to them promoting electrolytes.
The myth that electrolytes are of any benefit whatsoever for runners racing the standard distances is so widespread I would not be surprised if they genuinely believe they do something.
Ita different from shilling those stupid recovery boots etc where anyone with a brain knows they do sweet fa.
They both seem smart. They likely know that in 99% of cases, people with a normal diet don't need electrolytes. Even when they do, 1/4 tsp of salt plus 1 cup of water or coconut water saves you 99% of the cost.
These brands are just a marketing operation. There is no barrier to entry, no regulation, and huge gross margins that can be used to pay influencers to shill the product.
Overall, it's not hugely deep; I still watch these guys, but they are willingly participating in enabling brands to steal money from gullible, over-equipped runners and Hyroxers.
The most reductive position is that perhaps the morons who buy this stuff deserve it. The "Godtard" types! I heard a guy the other day saying he felt a bit dizzy at the end of a 10k, then realised he'd taken a normal gel and not the planned caffeine one! He probably went for an ice bath right after!
Thank you for your service. Mad how people who are paid to run can hate running so much.
Sarah has fallen off so hard. Tom was always just that pathetic guy they wheeled out for the people who walk parkrun to look to as inspiration, but how many videos can they do where he does a training plan and fails to improve?
These influencer founded supplement brands like SULT and SAP need to get in the bin.
Not a single bit of qualification, knowledge or expertise behind the products, they have just seen a trend and have jump on it to stay relevant, to have a niche ‘I’m a founder’ and to rinse peoples pockets for fad products. Then beg their influencer friends to promote it and make claims like ‘I’ve beaten my PB because I’ve been trying…’
In today’s video RTJ shows that he took a trip to Okinawa and has been cycling 4 hours day instead of running to let his back heal. It’s the off season in Japan now . I wonder about his future of running marathons will be , the back injury has been bothering him since last year .
Ben Fenton with 30:39 for 47th at Manchester 10km. 15:03 and 15:36. You know for someone who runs full-time and lives the life of a professional athlete, you'd kinda expect more from this guy. If he wasn't so smug I might actually feel sorry for him.

Didn't he say that he is getting closer and closer to the elites with every race?
Watched the hardest geezer video earlier and seems to be getting coached by Anya, surely a recipe for disaster. Another observation is he was running clockwise round the track at Paddington?!

There was a clip on social a few weeks ago of Hugo Fry on some podcast saying “controversial as I’m sponsored by a nutrition company - but unless you’re an elite athlete electrolytes are probably a waste of money”.
The comments were full of people saying he was ‘gate keeping’.
Exactly man it's so insane, every time I peek into this thread it's people spilling the most vile hatred about YouTubers they don't like and concocting fan fiction about their characters. Most of these guys are annoying sure but Like just stop watching these guys you don't like but I think most of you are so miserable in your own lives that you enjoy the hate watch. "I hope Felton gets what's coming to him" , I mean WTF
Yeah, it's also becoming more vicious over time which is a bit sad. I always think of the running community as being supportive of each other but this feels increasingly snarky and divisive 😔

I think Fenton doesn't realize that he peaked several weeks back with his two good half marathons and needs to break and start a new training cycle..

I think he considers himself an elite now that he has run that sub-65. And that seems to have been a goal - purely the status thing and being able to call yourself an elite. He mentioned this in his video on why he's now focusing on the HM instead of the marathon.

Fair enough, but why he didn't just say that instead of sarcastically captioning a week's worth of Strava vagueposts is beyond me. Dude seems like a bit of a mess recently if i'm honest.
Not sure where he goes from here tbh. Doesn't seem like he wants to change anything training wise, so as far as I can tell the plan is to cycle for a couple of months until the back clears up and then everything will magically be okay again? Kind of feels like wishful thinking given he's had a lot of issues outside of that with not much in the way of a clear resolution.
I don’t know too much about this Fenton/Felton guy but had a look, I have never heard of anyone referencing the Great Run as the “British Champs”
Maybe it’s new, but having competed in the ‘British Champs’ a few times I can safely say the Great Run has never been listed as this, nor would coming nearly 50th in a race ever be considered ‘British championship’ level worthy even 28th Brit to cross the line.. seriously these people need to get their heads out.

"This weekend sees the 2026 AJ Bell Great Manchester Run take to the streets of Manchester, with the best of British running talent also competing in the UK Athletics 10K Road Championships."
Interesting take from Fenton his Instagram post. Alluding to being an influencer and it’s responsibilities impacting his performance. Am I misreading this or?
Actually quite refreshing to see Cole admit that he completely cocked up by sacking his coach who he felt was holding him back (exactly what he needed!). Fingers crossed lessons have been learned this time and he will be more patient with it...Breaking the repeating marathon cycle as is definitely a good first step.
Fair enough! I’ve come from a decathlon discipline so slightly different, still sounds wild to me that someone keeps shouting about it being a British Championship but finishing 30th Brit. Title dropping to sound more important imo
