Agreed.

Can Ryun run the old man 45 year old sub 4 mile? I think not. That glory is reserved for Bernard.
The greater justice here is that the organizer of the vote failed to tip the scales! It was like a poll worker holding a campaign sign. Bad!

This news just in! Apparently, Jenny got more votes, but Joan won the electoral college. Besides, Jenny had 3 million illegal votes. We don't have any proof of that, but it's true anyway.

Simpson - AR steeple and 2 mile, 1 gold WC, 1 bronze Olympics, + other non-oly medals
Benoit - WR marathon twice, AR marathon for 18 years, 1 gold Olympics, + wins at Boston twice and Chicago
There is a reason Joan's 2:21 marathon AR held for 18 years. It was a very strong record.
WR>AR
Olympic Gold>WC Gold
She probably raced complete nobodies in those marathons. What a joke.
Yeah, Ingrid, Rosa Mota were nobodies.

Sorry, ROJO wrong again. Milers are always better runners than Marathoners. Simpson Should be winning this by a landslide.
A lot more versatility everything from 800-5000 including the steeple. vs 10k and marathon for a global appearance of what 5 races? not even close in my book.
By the same token, El g or even Mo are better runners than Bekele and Kipchoge.
In 30 years from now people will barely remember nor read about Simpson. Decker and Benoit however...

I wouldn't be so sure. Just looked at the vote and it says 50%-50%. I'm still saying Joan comes out on top. I voted for Jenny and probably would have voted for her over Deena, too.

Joan winning LA Olympics after being injured for so long was easily the greatest performance ever by an American female marathoner. Watching her win that at the age of 17 wow she just ran away from the field. She is and will always be a legend in US Marathoning lore.
She was injured for just a short time, and missed very little training. The injury came at a highly inconvenient time, however -- a few weeks before the Olympic trials marathon, a race in which she had been the huge favorite. After the trials (which she won), she returned to solid training very quickly, and was in excellent condition at the time of the Olympic marathon. I didn't find that Olympic race to be very interesting; Joanie moved hard early on, nobody covered, and Grete made up very little time in the later miles.
To me, Joanie's greatest race was the 1985 Chicago Marathon. Ingrid was running very well, and the weather conditions were somewhat more suitable for her than they had been in L.A. And Ingrid was the world record holder with considerably more speed at the shorter distances. But Joanie pushed relentlessly, and Ingrid finally cracked. It was a brutally effective race by Joanie, although, as it turned out, it was perhaps the last really good race that Joanie ever ran at the world-class level.
I just watched a short video showing highlights of Joan's 1984 Olympic win. It literally brought me to tears - remembering.... It was not just historic, it was stunning. To break away at three miles in an Olympic marathon against some great runners, like Greta Waitz who had been world ranked #1 for 5 of the previous 6 years was extraordinary. And especially so given her arthroscopic knee surgery only 17 days before the U.S. Olympic Trials just three months earlier. I urge younger folks to check out videos of that race. At this distance in time, it is impossible for them to fully feel the impact of what Joan did that morning in Los Angeles. But hopefully it will give them a little of the emotion that we who watched and experienced felt.

I looked at 12:01 Eastern and it was 51-49.
On the front page it says:
Rojo’s editorial seems to have worked as Samuelson has pulled ahead but we need to figure out if it was before or after the 12 midnight deadline.
I hope wejo is ashamed of rojo, and will stop his rigging.

Shocker - they don’t know how to set a cutoff. I looked at the alleged cutoff and Jenny definitely won. Other posters noted it as well. What a joke.
Is the tracksuperfan Jesse Squire T&F history podcast on Joan Benoit Samuelson mentioned already?
Yes we are all so very surprised by this.

Hey brojos, time to address this here, no?

The campaign is working. Now Simpson only 51%-49%. I expect to wake up tomorrow and find Samuelson the winner 51%-49%.
I called it last night. Simpson was leading at midnight, 51%-49% but that magically changed to Samuelson 51-49% in the hours since the deadline. I've lost interest in voting now.
I voted for Joan, and I really think she deserved to advance, but it was a cheap shot by Rojo, disgraceful.
I have no issue with RoJo stating his opinion. We all had the opportunity to do that. If he changed the voting procedures by extending time, that's problematic.
Depending on their back room shenanigans, this is how I'm voting in the final:
Kastor > Simpson
Samuelson > Kastor (mostly due to Samuelson's historic marathon wins and records; overall, Kastor was definitely the better overall runner when you consider her track and XC performances); Honestly, this will be a tough call for me. I may still go with Kastor.
Shorter > Ryan
This. Have Jenny give us a call when she's 60 and tell us how fast she's running.
Joannie is best American women distance runner in history with the greatest longevity .
Frank is the best man (though Jim was my hero and inspiration to start running as a skinny athmatic 15-year old).
Joan and Frank should be co-winners.
