A couple of lies in Parker's letter disappoint me.

First, nothing about Salazar's cheating involved good faith.

Phoning in for guidance on rules compliance means nothing.

And Nike is as guilty also and their criminality/fraud sets them up for lawsuits.

The bigger lie here is the same lie Nike/Armstrong marketing pitched us:

We can't have professional distance running without cheating.

That NOP was not the only cheating cannot mitigate their guilt or disrepute.

Nike’s lack of loyalty to the NOP made me so mad I couldn’t sleep last night. Alberto put his heart and soul into American distance running and Nike canceling the NOP is a huge slap in the face. They should be ashamed of themselves for trying to cancel is legacy. This is like the NFL canceling the Patriots or the NBA getting rid of the Warriors. Very tough scene. I am DEVASTATED.

The end of professional distance running will be great for the sport. It will herald in the new Amateur Era and we can enjoy more crazy guys like Kawauchi in running races. The corrupt coaches, agents, doctors, and managers will mostly disappear from the sport and the doping problem in Africa related to running will also mostly disappear. The main option for doping will be state organized doping and in today's day and age this will be easy to detect and take down.

Who cares? This "sport" is a joke. Distance running in general is just a haven for unathletic nerds. What other sport could Rupp or Eliud or Farah hope to play at a pro level? At least NOP gave you clowns something to get worked up about.

Do you honestly think Nike has plans to drop Brazier and other runners that were under the NOP brand?! Some will move to BTC, some will relocate to Eugene/OTC, and some will be part of the reincarnation of NOP.

This idea that this is going to benefit non-Nike training groups is fantasy. There might be a couple of athletes who change shoe contracts, but most, if not all, will still be wearing the swoosh at next summer's Olympic Trials.
