I'm a left leaning moderate, more and more so as I get older. I think the USA needs to be more moderate as well.
You're reasons for voting for Trump are, in my opinion, a big reason for the divide. Republicans (i'm generalizing big time here) vote for fiscal and policy stuff they agree with. Liberals, although often flawed in thinking through the details, default to policy that helps people. This is their greatest trait. They care about people and their instinct is to do what is best for people, not money or jobs or religion etc.
Getting older, as in 22 going on 23?
You don’t sound very moderate and yeah, you’re generalizing big time. Not just about the republicans, but the “liberals” as well. It’s telling what your true leanings are, since you identify as liberal and not as Democrat which is the party’s true name. Not all Democrats are liberals.
Many liberals don’t help people. They kill them in the womb.
LGBTQ, minority advocates, feminists, etc aren’t all into helping people, just people that fit certain criteria.
Lots of left wingers like to think of themselves as being moderate. That’s the scary part. The liberal mind is by definition self-deluding. Facts and reason cannot penetrate that swirling emotional caldron of chaos.
Also, the idea that liberals think they hold the high moral and ethical ground ground with respect to care and concern for humanity is laughable and just willfully ignorant.
