Apparently, Mary is not readay for Prime Time. If the previous poster is correct and Cain is a Hillary supporter then this would definitely explain her slump. Best get off that losing train Mary Cain, and get on the Trump victory express. The future is still bright, just leave your tired and slow Democrat mindset in the past.

I love Mary Cain and I want her to come back, if she really wants to. I'm shocked that she was put into that caliber of a race. It was very fast but still, as others have said, she dropped off pace very quickly. Immediately, really. Started in the back and stayed in the back. Maybe she was having some kind of issue that we will find out later but it appears she just isn't remotely in race shape. I'm saying that you can look at her and tell that she is not race ready, at least not for a race of that quality.

Maybe it's possible but not for her in the path she took. The line of progress is never straight up but when you put that amount of pressure on yourself and every time you race expect to compete highly and win, it makes it hard to get through the rough patches. If she had gone to college she could have gotten through that with less eyes on her and less pressure on herself. She'd have a bad race but place highly. Ages 16-22 lots of things are going on with Females(but males too) so to try to always be at your absolute best it's tough.
The point of going Pro had to be to make teams, how many Olympic or World Champ teams has Cain or Efraimson made? 1?
They should have gone to college, they would both be running better if they went to college. Their careers wouldn't be over if they had went to college.
I like that she had the mental strength to go pro out of high school. I respect T&F athletes more that go pro straight out of high school than the one and done athletes. There is no guarantee things would have turned out differently if Mary Cain ran for a university. Some females are going to arrive at 20 to 25 percent body fat during their college years no matter how hard they train. I do wish Cain never got with Salazar. Cain was a 1:59.xx 800m runner as a sixteen year old. I wish she would have spent her teens working on her 400/800 abilities. IMO, Salazar, a man who sees everyone as a potential 5k to Marathon runner moved Cain up in distance too quickly.

The most imortant thing is that she lives a good life on and off the Track. The problem young success is that you have a long life ahead of you and plenty of time to not worry about people's expectations. Especially the LRC trolls.

I certainly hope I'm wrong and she can make a comeback. I just wonder, can one regain all that lost ground, losing two years of training while other athletes around the world are able to progress? And the runner on that track today didn't seem like an athlete returning to form, but one who had lost it. She seemed a different person.
And on a related note, why oh why won't she speak out about her time with Salazar? She's so PR savvy, and maybe that's the point, that she doesn't want to shut the door, but it just seems patently clear that *something* went seriously wrong while she was under Salazar's tutelage, and I would like to hear just what happened.

She ran to at least 4 mins into the race.
With Salazar she lost the love of the sport, which already showed her senior year when she skipped pre and quite a bit else "for her prom." And her comments since have supported that. Without the drive, she can't get back to where she was before. But she's at least got a fun summer vacation planned for herself, Ireland, Finland, etc. I always wish the best in these cases, like German, Webb, Solinsky, after they flew high and then lost whatever it was that brought them to such heights, but it seems like they never get it back once it is gone.

It wasn't quite as bad as you make it out to be. She did run 1k in 3:01. I mean that's like 4:50 mile pace.

She is in college. Why give her a hard time about when she turned pro? It is probable this would have happened if she were running in the NCAA as well. Given that, she signed a contract at the perfect time to maximize her career earnings. Everyone on this board pretends like it is easy to become a pro and stay in top form for 20 years (thanks Bernard Lagat). For most pro runners, they have one or two peak seasons and that's it. I want Cain to be BACK BABY as much as everyone else, but we have to accept that she is past her peak. She still had an extremely successful career as a pro runner.

Can you all think of an athlete that has had worse career advice/direction than Cain with such consistency?

I feel bad for her. If her parents had been better informed she would have been an NCAA star instead of just one more teen phenom burnout. Unless she can turn a major corner and have better “fork control” she’s done.
