Smoove, I had a similar thought looking at the how to cook a steak thread. "Man, this guy must be opinionated about everything he does"

Don't know exactly what your conditions were, but JD estimates a 40:11 to be sub 39 in ideal conditions if it was about 80° for your race.
Yeah, before the race I plugged the numbers into the calculator, and figured anything below 40:30 would still be on target. At race time, temp was mid-80s, humidity only 50%. Full sun and no shade, though.
It was a shame, however, that I was unable to "race," as I may not run against my age-group rival again this year. I don't like being 0-2 in the match-up!
Maybe he will run the 15K next month, despite it not being part of the ROY series. I hope so, even if it puts me at 0-3 for the year.
Inputting OR's 5K, at 80°, into JD's heat calculator shows 17:10 equivalent. It was warmer than that, I'm sure, plus sauna-like humidity, and hills. He is certainly ready to run in the 16's. Impressive at age 49. A 16:59 age-grades at 86.16%.
Hey, I never said that the idea that I come off a certain way is unfounded.
Allen - Thanks for the heat calculation. Actually, I did the same thing...plugged 80 degrees into the JD calculator and got 17:10. I always try to be a little conservative. Temp, though, was already showing 80 when I left my car at 7:30, and so it was probably 81 or 82 at gun time (8:00). Humidity was 95% when I left my house.
Great job with your 40:11. In good conditions, you would have been under 39. That is smokin’ fast, my friend.

I'm not saying its a bad thing either, you have a way of training that works for you and apparently you also have a way of cooking a steak that works for you.
To too hot's point, in person, I'm only half the douche that I appear to be on the internet. That's still fairly douchey, but I can't help it if I want people to get their steaks right.

Yeah I'm more of a "cook steak by feel" kinda guy.
If anyone eats a steak cooked longer than medium rare, they should be run outta town on a rail.
IF I lose to AJ, that filet gonna be rare as H*LL

Nah I think it should be well done. Slathered in ketchup. We don't want you to enjoy this.

Fixed it for you.
16:40 in the 5k time trial today brought to you by Slo-Twitch’s Speed MF Cycle. Split 5:20, 5:22, 5:24, :34 in a muggy 74 + 72, just shy of the 80th percentile age graded. Height/weight graded would be more fair.

So in a road race, without pacers, same conditions.. what you think? 16:50-55?
Forgot to say...I like my steak medium-well or well. Honestly, I prefer hamburger these days.

For a real race I wouldn’t have run 80 Miles last week, I would have gone deeper into the well with people to race against and age group glory to run for, and I wouldn’t have been turning left all the time, so probably more like 16:30, veggieboi.
I'm still thinking a fine tabbouleh will be served.
AJ - Yeah...I know what you mean. Going into my Fouth of July 5k, I had weeks of 80 miles and 68 miles.

I had to throw a little shade. Okay for serious.. what about without the VaporFlys? 16:50?

Oh, OR. Do you also like to add some Coke to your single malt scotch?

Some 7Up, actually...
