Just because YOU couldn't run a good 800 after a relay leg doesn't mean it can't be done. I've seen it done many times. And 2:01.5 is 2:01.5 no matter the circumstances under which you ran it. It's a very good time for a freshman and if you finished out the season you could go even faster. But it seems like leaving the team is probably best both parties.
Oh, I'm still going to be doing some races but they'll be unattached at AAU meets. Hopefully I can crank out sub 2. Maybe low 4:10s in the 1500m

I didn't know the AAU still did anything with track. Like I said, I think that's the best way for you to go. Good luck.
Should have stayed with the program. It sounds like the coach had you in better shape than you will achieve on your own.
My coach put me in the 4x8 yesterday and I was not happy either. However I didn’t complain raced my hardest in 4x8, 3200, and 1600. Not complaining and having a good mindset led me to pr-ing in the 3200 by 14 sec(after only 30 min break in between 4x8 and this), and getting pts for my team in the 1600. I think you mentally checked out in the open 800 so you could get pissed at your coach and could have someone to blame besides yourself when you didn’t do good.

This just proves thst you are a natural relay runner. You should immediately abandon running any open events and concentrate on bring a relay specialist. Your coach is a genius for recognizing your true calling.

No. I wanted to test flagpole's theory and I hoped that it would lead to a sub-2. I hit 600 in 1:33 and packed it in a little bit. I maybe could have closed in 32 for 2:05. Maybe.

I'm not racing for my school anymore, they cheesed me out of a good open race just so they could get dead last in an invitational. I told the coach afterwards that I thought there was no point to the 4x8, he responded by calling me a "whiny little ba stard" Since he was a douche about it, I am no longer racing for the school and urging my friends to do the same.
2:01 is an awesome time for 9th grade. Good for you!
I only ran 2:07 for 880 my first year of running in 10th grade and won the league meet.
Regarding the coach, wow what a jerk. You should most definitely tell your parents what he said, and how he's been treating you. Personally I think he should be reported to the school board and fired. That many of the LRC idiots agree with him shows what a despicable person that he is.

1) Add at least a second to a relay split...just can't be sure about those. So, I give you a 2:03.
2) I was going to give you props for your relay split until I read the rest...still horrible attitude, and that trumps a decent race for you.
3) If the coach actually called you that, he was out of line even though the sentiment is correct. He should have been more diplomatic.
4) You put yourself at a HUGE disadvantage leaving a team. You risk losing the love for it if you even ever had it. You risk failing without the necessary structure
