That is why I said "arguably" with regard to that issue. It seems some hikers think that for a hike to be considered self-supported, you cannot take handouts from others. Others do not share that rule. Since there is no true sanctioning body and set of universal rules, it depends on the individual hiker. But clearly the car rides are instantly disqualifying.

it is a different type of talent. There are some people who end up rested on 4-5 hours sleep. Over 45 days you are talking like 2 less days than people who need 6-8. To some extent this is trainable but most people tend to have a limit around 6 or so.

For the people with support crews, if there any legit reason not to go pro the whole thing? Even with a hours of missing data, you would be able to tell if things were remotely reasonable.

Hike the trail but at crossroads pick up food water and supplies or have someone drive you to a motel or restaurant/grocery store is a supported hike right.

Do you just count time on the trail or elapsed time?

If she were a man, this thread would be MORE critical; not less. Remember how fast the Mike Rossi, Rob Young and Kip Litton threads grew... and nobody was holding back or feeling sorry for them, even though, like Kaiha, they are similarly f'd in the head.

Guys, head to the White Blaze forum. From what I can tell (and I might be mis-reading it), it sounds like at least one person has said she skipped entire segments of the trail.

Interesting tidbits on this lady (courtesy of MuddyWaters on that link above. None of these are my words!):

-Her cause donations go into personal PayPal

-Claimed doing yo-yo for cause, but skipped last 250 to katahdin

- prior 2013 arrest for assault and battery

- distances and times sobo are borderline impossible

- topless photos a priority of hike

- zero day and half

-smokes a lot, drinks a lot during hike.

- every other word out mouth is f-bomb in one video

- legs shaven smooth in photos

- chunky legs, cheese on back of thighs

- never apparently knew of any rules, but claimed to go after the self supported record. Took rides, and stuff left for her because "people " knew where she would be.

- claims outhiked a top world class endurance runner

- claims slept 2-3 hrs per night

As an update to the "Billie Beartrap" claim. Apparently he has been reached out to on Facebook. He claims to have driven the woman for a stretch of the trail in Shenandoah Park, and dropped her off at a hostel.

He provided a Shenandoah National Park receipt with a timestamp, and also has a picture and video with her for corroboration. His story also aligned with the owner of the aforementioned hostel, with "Billie Beartrap" claiming that he dropped her off after 11 AM, and the hostel owner claiming that she arrived by vehicle around noon. The hostel owner then went on to say that he dropped her off on a specific section of the trail the next day.

Seems like maybe a modernized update of Rosie Ruiz - she wanted to cheat her way down the AT for a bit of internet fame and donation money, but ended up cheating by too much, and is now stuck defending her "record."

Not sure if this was mentioned earlier or not, but apparently the "charity" she set up went to a personal PayPal account. When some people found out about this and brought it up, she went on to say that she needed to use some of it for personal expenses related to the trip, and would donate the rest afterwards.

"Donate the rest"...as if there is going to be anything left.

Reminds me of someone I ran with about 6 to 7 years ago that wanted to run 52 in 52. Basically one marathon every weekend for a year (I think she got the idea from Dane...ugh). On her website, it was, Of course, all "oh, donate to my charity, donate to my charity. It's for the kids in Africa" or some shit like that...

I thought to myself "How much are you spending on food, hotels and airfare alone to fund this quest/goal?" In the end, I think she raised like $4,000 over the entire year. How much of this went to charity? Probably none.
