I believe that the cutting inside the cones is speculation from the CBC video we can't clearly see. The IAAF article on the matter states that the infraction was after the water jump. That is the picture in the article that shows a minor step inside during traffic.

I think your extreme dislike for the Frenchman is clouding your judgment. A broken rule is a broken rule, and I don't see how it has anything to do with sportsmanship. At 2:18 in the race, just before the water jump, Mekhissi has the "rail" and it does seem like Kemboi sort of bumps Mekhissi, passing him on the inside - there is one shot that looks like he steps on the line while passing him. Mekhissi's actions remind me of when a quarterback sees that someone on the defensive line jumps offside by an inch, and then chucks up a hail Mary for a TD. Also, the situation reminds me of when Kim Collins failed a drug test but still got to keep his WC 100m gold because he had forgotten to declare his TUE. If it's a guy you dislike, then it'd be easy to be upset with the decision, but if it's someone you like, then you're okay with this rule bend.

Taking off your shirt on the straightaway.... by a mile. Kemboi was in traffic and can plausibly claim that he was impeded.

Here's the thing. It's not shortcutting when it's one step. You still come out in the exact same place as everyone else. 50m? yeah you could actually reduce the radius of the turn and have run less distance. But one step isn't giving an athlete any type of advantage, especially when it looks like they could have been pushed. We've seen plenty of races where athletes have been bumped over the rail and gotten back on the track, and not been DQ'd. If it's in the water pit? That's a different story, but the IAAF ruling says it was after the water jump.

They just showed a highlight of the race on the primetime airing. The showed a quality video of the infraction. All it was was the one step showed in Rojo's image. Rules may be rules, but the infraction couldn't look more minor and in my opinion an argument could be made that he was forced out by the placement of the guy to his inside.

Whatever. We all know that sh!thead was nowhere close to finishing in the top 3.

NBC showed the foul a few minutes ago. His left foot stepped over the white line at least once but NBC froze the frame after the first foul. If a foul is a foul, then this was a foul. Must admit I forgot to look for a red flag.

If that was the true summary then I would agree with the DQ.

But NBC just showed an HD slow motion replay.

And that is it what I saw.

He passes people on the inside before the water jump, but he remained on the outside of the cones the whole way.

He takes the the barrier and does land in the water, not on the track.

A few strides after the water jump he takes one full step clearly inside the cones - the picture everyone has seen.

So it looks like he was DQed for one step inside the cones.

Unless NBC showed the wrong infraction and he did something else on a different lap.

What a TOTAL F'ING F-TARD!!!!! This is why he's doing it - to get back at them for that disqualification. What he did then was totally disrespectful and he deserved to be slammed big time for it!

What Kemboi did however, was absolutely NOTHING!!!

*Did he try and run around the inside the cone intensionally or egregiously cutting the distance? - NO!

* Did he shove, push or impede anyone else's progress - NO!

*Stepping as he did was impossible to avoid coming down off the jump - it was only even with 'one' foot. This wasn't an attempt at cheating in anyway and everyone with 'two' brain cells can see that! Fair enough, if you run or take a full stride on the inside of the track attempting to cut others off but he did nothing like that, even remotely.

Dastardly act typical of the French stealing a bronze from legend on his final race. Mekhissi was far behind not even in contention and that step didn't change anything. Felt sorry for their bad luck with the Lavillanie incident and Bosse missing out on the bronze but now think they get what they deserve.

Ezekiel Kemboi with his multiple golds is still the 🐐GOAT🐐 and now that he's retired and going into coaching, I hope he sends his young charges to specifically kick this goon's ass.

For a guy like kemboi, he's already won gold twice and a million other medals, he probably didn't want the bronze anyways. The French has probably never medaled before in the event, i can at least appreciate them wanting the bronze

Is this a serious post? You realize Mekhissi has "won" 3 medals in the steeplechase (2008,2012, and now 2016).

Everybody should tweet at Mekhissi something along the lines of "Good job placing 4th at the Olympics"
