Wyoming.... Ricky Faure (currently in high school) is their best hope.

Here's an Idaho guy from a long time ago.

Tom Von Ruden graduated from high school in Notus, Idaho. (He did spend a part of his childhood in California and Montana. But he spent his last two years of high school in Idaho.)

He finished 9th in the 1968 1500 meters final. He was ranked 5th in the world by T&F News in 1967. Seventh in 1971.

NY and no one has mentioned John Trautmann? Guy only made 2 Olympic teams running on the equivalent of 1 foot for a few years. Back as a master with a fused big toe and running in the 4:20's

I think Chris Fox has a bit of an edge on Taylor. Taylor's PBs: 4:00.6 mile, 13:38 5000, 27:59 10k, 2:13:56 marathon. Fox's PBs: 3:59.10 mile, 13:21 5000, 27:53 10000, 2:13.40 marathon.

We also can't forget to mention Carl Hatfield. Started running his senior year of high school, walked on to WVU's cross country team and became a 2 time All American, competed in 4 Olympic Trials, and led the West Virginia Track Club to the 1974 Boston Marathon team championship.

For WV I would go:

1 - Chris Fox

2 - Steve Taylor

3 - Carl Hatfield

4 - Josh Simpson (Only behind Hatfield because of Hatfield's 4 Oly Trials...Josh will match that before he's done and will probably surpass Hatfield)

5 - Clara Santucci (Grandt)

Men - close call between Don Clary and David Morris; Clary made an Olympic team, Morris didn't but in US rankings over their careers 2:09 marathoner Morris gets the nod.

Trevor Dunbar GOAT high school, but perhaps to be eclipsed by Levi Thomet who just ran 14:44 as a junior.

Women harder to find. Janay DeLoach won an Oly medal as jumper, tough to beat. Christine Clark is from Montana but as a long time resident beat her treadmill and long odds to win the 2000 Olympic Trials marathon.

Ally Ostrander could be the one, the junior from Kenai ran 16:47 5K XC the other week in Portland.
