That was really sick. Symmonds is going to be thinking about this one for while . . .

sucks
Really does. People may rag on symmonds for sitting back, but I think he played it right. Considering the field went out on WR pace, any other race everyone would have come back to him. Can't blame him for being abit cinservative with that pace. Great race for the Americans. btw, calling BS amos being 18. 1:41 as an 18 year old? no way.
Rudisha is amazing, obviously.
Huge PBs for Solomon and Symmonds. Symmonds had the second slowest PB in the finals. He and Solomon ran great, I think. I couldn't ask for more.
come on now... wrote:
That was the best 4th and 5th I've ever seen. Symmonds had a bit left...coulda had 3rd with a few more meters. Amazing last 100 for him.
Everyone knew where the finish line was, Symmonds ran a perfect race for him, but that field was out of this universe.
And KEnya goes GOld & Silver! Aman and Kaki were a little stupid to go with Rudisha. They both bombed allowing Kiptum to pass them in the final stretch. What a performance by the Masai boy! Gun to tape 800m world record and no pacer! He really envisioned facing a real lion and had to kill it!

you are willing to accept a 19yo running 1:40 but not an 18 yo running 1:41?
1:43.77 DFL
Kenya is back, baby!
Results are up:
7 out of 8 men ran personal bests.
didn't think I'd see that in an olympics. Was expecting a tactical race. What guts and talent

Maybe I'm ignorant but damn it seemed like Symmonds went waaaay too conservative. It was like he jogged the first 100 - 150 meters. I understand that is his typical strategy but damn, he was out of it 30 seconds into the race.
I understand the reaction but it is an ignorant reaction. That was the fastest 800m race ever won, the fact that people did not come back to symmonds is astounding. He ran for silver and bronze and it was not a bad strategy. I don't like it because like you said he was out of gold 30s in (more like 10s in imo) but obviously everyone was out of gold in that race except David before the race even started.
Great race by the Americans. You can't do much more than run personal bests in the Olympic final.

Best 800 ever
Gold and bronze to Kenya, but who's counting. Amos from Botswana for the silver.
I don't need no MF pacemaker
Shows how much Tangui's been helping him as pacer!
you don't run conservative and run 1:42.95! It was just to fast...Nick was 51 at the 1/4! IT WAS JUST TO FAST!

Rudisha would have been a moron to leave this race to tactics. There was enourmous pressure on him, given what kind of week Kenya's had.
