Could any pro athlete in the big sports beat Aston Eaton in any event in the decathlon?

31 inches isn't high. Compare to an elite group of jumpers and i doubt a single person would be under that 31 inch average.

Remember Gladiators? In Australia they did a sports special. Top sports people across a range of Olympic and non-Olympic sports competed. The winners were a Decathlete for men and a Pole Vaulter for women. Go track!

I would be curious to see what Cincinnati Reds prospect Billy Hamilton could do on a track. He was clocked at 13.8 seconds on an inside the park homerun last night. If that was down purely on the shortest route it would be 120 yards but 130 is more likely with the routes taken to the bases. I believe Hamilton is at about 109 stolen bases already this season. He is currently at AA Pensacola.

This is the equivalent of right around 12 seconds for 100m, maybe just under. Only thing special for this baseball player is that he isn't 30lbs overweight.

100 - Quite a few NFL players could beat him here (think Trindon Holiday)

110 Hurdles - A healthy RGIII would beat him.

Shot and Discus - Quite a few NFL football players (think Margus Hunt)

High Jump - Probably a couple NBA players

1500 - Maybe a soccer player or boxer

Pole Vault - No

Long Jump - Probably not. Possibly a basketball player (maybe Mike Conley Jr. can jump like his dad)

400 - Maybe a basketball player.

Javelin - No

The majority of hs kids who run at this level go on to run faster in the 42s after a few years. His point is that is is very possible he could have gone on to be a better hurdler than eaton, not a certainty.
