It's still rather unclear to me whether he "quit," or was asked to leave. In any event, his quote on the front page about not seeing himself being able to run 12:35 and 2:03 is spot on (and those times will only get faster by the time he peaks), and he has a much better shot in the triathlon over time. He'll probably still run. There was a famous duathlete once who could bang out 28 and change for the 10k, though I think he's deceased, so who knows if drugs had anything to do with it.

The thing is, college running is about comaraderie, being the best you can be, and obtaining a WORTHWHILE education, not focusing exclusively on running and letsrun, only to be unemployable, disappointed, and depressed when you graduate. Very few collegiate runners, even the top collegiate runners, actually make a viable living doing it.
