Haven't read the thread, but with Komen being really the only one to push an early pace, and him not making the final, could the final go slow enough that Centro is in the hunt on the final 100? That all the USA could ask for. Good luck, Centro.

Who are you calling a goat?!! For a man who is suppossed to be in charge of this website, describing an athlete as a goat could be construed as libel.

Ciarán had an infection at NCAA outdoors. Dont forget that he was a medal prospect, having cantered to 28.32. I dont think he is losing too much sleep at having run a bad race at a collegiate event. He has bigger fish to fry, and by comfortably taking the scalps of big names like willis, higuero and mekonnen he has done just that.

damn right..NCAA is for jokers...Worlds is for the big guns, which O lionard now is...looks like Manzano came off the juice a week or two too soon...guess that blood testing caught him and messed up his schedule..same goes for rowbury..hopefully they'll adjust for next year and some out flying

His team lost the team title by 1 point and he didn't score. I'm sure he was gutted by that.

The thing is he's always had my utmost respect as clearly he was gutted by that performance. You could tell he wanted it badly.

Ever since, I watched a tape of his acc 1500 victory, I'be been a big fan. To me his struggles at ncaas, make this all the more impressive.

But if you don't think that a world championship finalist not scoring at ncaas is a huge failure, then clearly you don't understand how much the ncaa means to the collegiate athletes. I'm sure at the time he wasn't thinking "Oh i'll be going to worlds later in the summer - no worries." I mean the guy was aa 5k/10k at the time and was nowhere near the A standard in either event.

Centro's body type and especially his running form (great turnover/sudden acceleration) is tailor-made for slow championship rounds.

Agreed on Baala. I'd say Baala, Kiprop, Kiplagat in no particular order should be considered the favorites in the final.

Centro ran a perfect semi-final. He has always been a brilliant racer but I would be surprised if he is top 5 in the finals. Here's to hoping for a surprise.

Just beacuse Centro does well in slower tactical races doesnt mean his body is tailored for slow championship rounds. Stop trying to put him a box limiting his abilitys.

But i do think there is some truth in your statement.

Centro definitely got a bit lucky to have room to make that pass on the inside with a lap to go. He stayed calm though, and it worked out. Great run for him, and I'm excited to see what he can do in the final.

He did a great job using arms to protect his space early on in the race too - I always wonder why we don't see people doing that more in these tight slow races. I remember doing that all the time in XC races in high school.

He did get a little lucky that the gap opened by the first Ethiopian and right at the 1/4 to go mark he kind of reached out and slid through.

brilliant smart tactics. unfortunately they dont hand out medals in the semis.

He is the youngest guy to make the final though. Congrats.

Some of these guys have faster PRs but they are able to maintain a fast speed for a longer period where as Centro can run faster for a shorter period. He has flat out sprinting speed. Good PR's across the board but he has a different gear in a sprint finish. But he also has outstanding quarter mile speed. Look at NCAA's, USA's, this past semi final. I think he knows he can go from a quarter mile or 300 out and be in contention and if it comes down to the home stretch we have seen what can happen.

I was lucky enough to see him three seasons a year in high school. The boy can fly

Willis has issues with the heat, so I am assuming they were icing him down.

How fast could he run the 400m in HS (if you have that info)?
