Oh I do. He ran like a fool. If I ever ran a race even close to that I would have been really pissed afterwards. Especially if any time I let the pace lag going into the finish, and if someone edged me out at the tape, which has happened, I was definitely very pissed at myself for letting that happened. I agree with you about the other things, but the worse thing was letting the pace lag in the last 3 or 4 laps.

Webb, like Ritz has hardly run any 3000's/2 mile races. Goucher got some in his first couple years out of college and he and Teg both have 7:34 marks, though Teg has a better equiv. from his 2 mile AR. Teg has been healthy during most of his mid 20's though when Goucher was not.
Solinsky still has 7:36 as his best, but I think he has a 3000 on the plate so we'll se if he can lower it (should).
Anyone who can run 7:30mid and has the ability to break 28 for 10,000 has a good shot at sub 13 with enough good opportunities.
I still believe Webb is a medal threat at 5000, I just hope he experiments with it a bit.
Fans are getting greedy. Solinsky in his first really good season is expected to PR every time he races AND set a 5k AR (10k AR not good enough?). Rupp the 10k guy and newly minted pro is expected to PR by more than 10 sec in the 5k. Get a grip people. Solinsky has run 12:55 and 26:59 this season. Rupp has run 13:07 and 27:10. Those are world class times! Be happy for these guys! Be happy for US distance running!
I don't understand why everyone seems to be saying that if he would have taken the lead then he obviously would have had no kick and be burned up.
Solinsky seemed very comfortable running 61's, 62's and 63's. The two laps before the bell were 65 and 63. You're telling me if Solinsky had taken the lead and continued running, lets say 63 and 62 on those laps (Which were completely feasible for him to do) that he would have burned out? That was plenty within his means and would have knocked off AT LEAST another 3 seconds.
Tell me, when exactly IS an ok time to take the lead? Sometimes I feel that if an American runner dares to take the lead before the last 100, then it is too soon. But lets be real, it will be a LONG time before an American (other than Lagat) is going to sprint for a win on the home stretch against top rate competition.
Solinskys best shot at winning and getting the American record was to take the lead with 3 laps to go. You don't mystically "Burn Up" just because you lead the race. You burn up because you push the pace.

This. The steady improvement by US runners is giving people a real lack of perspective.

Gotta agree with this one. Rupp may have already peaked, but 13:07 would've been considered absolutely tremendous were it a year plus a week ago. Still, I wish we'd seen him run a 10,000 in Europe this year somewhere.

Its amusing how short peoples memory is. And not just this person's. The announcer on the homestretch(i only watched the replay) "When is the last time you saw a non african challenging for one of the top positions in a distance race" paraphased obv.

Solinksky obv ran beyond awesome today. I thought he looked tired with 600 to go he was leaning forward and stumbling a little. Just because he and everyone in that race has basically superhuman running ability doesnt mean they dont get tired. Im glad everyone knows he was running easy at 61-63 second pace just because his form isnt breaking down etc.
Ritzs run last year just looked cooler cuz he was rolling tons of people up the last 3 laps.
Next year Rupp or Teg will prob run 1254 at this meet and everyone will be like whatever happened to that Solinksy guy didnt he have an ok year last year. Appreciate what these guys do! You never know if it will happen again.

Had he gone 62, 61 would he have been able to go better than 56.X or the 57low required for the AR, probably not. The reason he looked so good was because they allowed it to slow that much. But perhaps from a going to win standpoint he should have gone.
I would have been interested to see how well he would have hung had they kept it on the grind.

Well Bekele did keep it going, he ran in the front anyway and he won.
3:03 is 61 a lap for the kick, only slightly faster than the average pace.
A 61-60-59 would have been 12:53, probably faster than that.
with this being an off campionship and olympic year. i think you will see a lot of quality guys come back next year.
I think the quality of runners will be up next year. many of the top runners are taking the year off and taking it easy.
next year you will have to deal with top kenyans that you haven't heard off... in shape ethio's like bekele, geneti, cherkos
one american will struggle to battle a slew of kenyans.'
we have seen this before - including mottram and bauman.
so the guy runs a 12:56, i doubt he's gonna leave the 5k just like that.
