Great post, HRE. Most parents are delusional about their kids' abilities and what the college scholarship game is all about. Four sports -- that's all -- give full-rides to athletes. They are: football, men's basketball, women's basketball, and volleyball. The rest are split.
If you go D2 or NAIA, the scholarships are even less.
The biggest secret in higher ed which the little league parents do not know about: There is approximately 300-500 times more academic scholarship money than athletic scholarship cash, and yes, some of that academic money is for four-year full rides.
If students spent as much time studying as playing sports, mommie and daddy wouldn't have to worry about getting that 1/4th tuition/books scholarship for a minor sport.
