Free for African athletes, confined to Kenya though. Too many language barriers with Ethiopians and Eritreans.
European runners are expected to contribute to coach J.S's budget and time he dedicates to athletics. Only fair.
This is a golden opportunity as coach will be retiring from his job in December 2025.
You are correct there Ghost1. But as an exception I coached a world top Ethiopian pararunner ( one arm) at 1500m from 4:04 down to 3:58. He was well educated and handle English good. But most Kenyans speek good English of course.Officially I go in pension 1st of September and will have plenty of free time to coach runners at all distances and levels. Everyone welcomed . 🖐🤠 🖐
Today Delvis had a very good workout again . 5 sets of 4x 400m with 60 sec easy walkrest between 400s and 3 min ( 90 sec jog + 90 sec easy walk)rest between sets. He ran average time in the 5 sets as follow: 67, 66, 64, 63 , 61sec .
Good point there, but as XC isn't his primary goal now and just raced sometimes for variation and better overall strength it's not needed. When I coached J. Kipchirchir Too to become one of Kenya's 3 best XC juniors ( and winner of Discovery XC as a senior) I sometimes put in hill repeats to prepare him for tougher XC courses.
🇰🇪🤠🇸🇪
Funny. The other day Delvis posted a video where he was doing hill repeats with other runners.

What is your opinion on this?
Nothing unusual there. Most if not all Kenyans (and Ethiopians) train in groups as a matter of course and habit. It's a group culture, very different from Western individualism.

That's not the point. The point is that Jan says Delvis doesn't have hill sprints in his plan but Delvis is doing hill sprints.
Sounds like the typical case of Jan saying he coaches a runner when that is not really the case...

Well, I don't coach him with hillreps. Maybe you have seen a video/ photo where he helps Norwegian runners who is at Eldoret for training now ?
Another thing , can someone tell how to put up photos or videos here nowadays?

I spent 5 weeks in Kenya, 2022, and met the athletes coached by J.S., in Keroka, and Kericho. They follow Jan's plan but also add stuff and modify but J S. Is the boss, guiding light, much revered in absentia.
Sammy Nyokaye, runner, gravitating to more coaching is the second in command. Nyokaye, btw, has transferred to a new location, closer to Nairobi.

They were all local athletes.
So Delvis is doing sessions you didn't prescribe...
No, he is not doing any hill reps , but sometimes running with a group on his easy runs. But then the others need to go his given pace...and on workouts he mostly have pacers , running friends and now even a bicycle to pace like Ingebrigtsen or Almgren.
The only extra he does is drill sessions, and that I think is very good.

Today it was time for another LT interval, 12 x 1000m with 60 sec easy walkrest.
Delvis had pacemaker help by a friend on bicycle. Average pace 3:00 min ....
Delvis say he just relax so good at this for him slow pace. 🇰🇪🏃➡️🤠 🇸🇪
Congratulations on the good work. When he finally makes it to Europe or to the USA, might we see Delvis run 3:34.00/7:35-7:40/13:05-13:10?
Based on his impressive training I think Delvis might get close to those marks.
Thanks my friend!🙏As we know very well there must be some portion of luck in the process too, support, opportunities, and stay away from severe injuries and so on. But if we see just at this young runners sprint and cardio vascular capacity I clearly see by my long experience he can reach the world top, if so, only the sky is the limit..🇸🇪🤠🇸🇪
