El G my first choice too. Very surprised he's not mentioned more often here.
Fairly clear, I think, that many (including me) wouldn't "waste" the choice on what is already pretty-defensibly assumed - e.g., Eastern Bloc women, EPO era distance runners (incl. El G), (FloJo), etc.
I'm a huge Haile fan, and while it would be great to hear that he was clean, I guess that I assume that he wasn't. Hence....Bolt, Bekele, Kipchoge.
And if Geb (and Komen and Tergat and.....) were dirty, and Bekele was clean, then Bekele was EVEN better than we thought.
Geb. If he did I'd keep it to myself and remain devastated.
It'd be my favorite Haile G for me as well. My favorite sprinter for a while, Tyson G, has already been busted, so I've already been devastated. Project Believe my arse.
Sifan Hassan or Genzebe Dibaba. Hassan’s ability to rebound from that fall to the track at the Olympics (1500 prelim), close her last 300 in 43 then come back that night and win the 5k had me wondering. Dibaba closed the final 800 of 2015 worlds in 1:56-1:57 ish then largely was a non factor after 2016 (also Aden association).
The reason this is an interesting question to me is not for the "gotcha" possibility of proving someone is a doper - it is for the possibility of proving that certain people, in spite of all the speculation, are *not* dopers. A friend of mine who became the fastest sprinter in his country told me that every person lined up in an Olympic 100m final is a doper; a former coach told me "they are *all* on juice" about the top distance runners. Perhaps they are right, but perhaps it is sour grapes. It would be fun to have proof that any of a bunch of favorite runners has been completely PED-free: Usain, Haile, Bekele, Paula R., Rudisha, etc.
Mo Farah. He trained with so many different groups all over the world. If he's clean then more power to him. If he's dirty it would expose or validate a lot of groups.
Not read whole thread but I would want to pick someone that then implicates a lot of people. I mean Bekele and Geb the goats so just because they were dirty doesn’t mean all are. And I’d say I already have heard anecdotally about a few (Farah, Geb) - so I’d probably try and think of someone that was in a big Kenyan training group. I mean if the Kenyans are cheating to run 12.50 so are the Ethiopians. Personally though as a brit - I’d say Radcliffe!
We all know Koch and Kratchilova doped so why waste them. I feel the same way about FloJo but it should shut up a bunch of ignorant/blind fans. I think I would choose Geb bc if he doped then all the great distance runners after prob did too. If not, then there’s a little hope
