Herriman beat the #1 returning team and was only ranked 8th by Milesplit!
I think they are putting the rankings that they had before the season started. They probably got them done a long time ago so they have enough time to start the countdown.
Park City yesterday didn't have many of the top teams or talents. Big race though with 37 teams between AM and PM. Quick thoughts:
-Skyridge and Layton were by far the 2 best teams(both races in PM, Skyridge won). Weird to see Layton have a good team. Both are top 10 teams in an extremely competitive state, but neither have even the slightest chance at a state title as they are miles behind AF and Herriman. If they were 5A or in a "normal" state either team would win a title.
-AF held most/all their varsity squad. Bradshaw from AF ran JV at timp and was 2nd overall in Park City, beating both Skyridge and Layton's #1. Highlights the huge chasm between AF and these teams.
-AM race was won by Mountain View. They beat Maple Mountain. These 2 are evenly matched and have been neck and neck in prior meetings. MV has a chance at a 4A title, but isn't even a top 10 team in Utah, let alone nationally relevant like last year.
-Maple Mountain is 5A, which oddly is an extremely weak classification this year. They aren't a top 10 team state-wide but really could win their state meet. I didn't see Rohatinsky in the results(2 weeks in a row). They aren't deep, so that hurts. Viewmont is 5A and they are quite good. They'll need Rohatinsky if they want to beat Viewmont at state.
-Kyle Steadman from MV was by far the best runner all day. He probably didn't even break a sweat to get the AM win.⁷
