I've come to dread conversations with non-runners about my running.

"my brother is the world record holder in the 100 hurders."

Me- "You mean 110mh? You're related to Aries Merritt?"

"no his name is james smith and he goes to eizenhower high school"

me- "..."

"I'm running a marathon this weekend"

Me- "wow, have you been training?"

"No. But it's only a 5k marathon."

me- "..."

"how far did you run this morning?"

Me- "Just an easy 9 miler."

"wow, I don't even drive that far."

me- "..." *thinking they should move their fat ass once in a while*

"you need to stop running so much, you'll get injured and destroy your knees."

Me- "Oh you know about running? Well the pros are running about 20-30 more miles than me per week. If you want to be good you need to handle mileage."

"trust me I know about running. You need to cut back and only run 5 days a week."

me- "..."

Tell them that you like the new kinds of running with water jumps and people throwing color.

Calling 5ks marathons is the one that gets my goat.

If you had read through the thread, you'd have realized you were replying to an 18 year old thread. Why did you do that?

That's really the point. These conversations wear me out.

They’re just being polite. They don’t want to talk about your running either.

Why did you respond to a 17 (almost 18) year old thread? Are you that bored?

I am very short with people who want to talk about it. I try not to be rude, but I'm not gonna keep the conversation going, and i dont find it difficult to change the subject.

When I meet someone new, I make it a point not to bring up running. I like to see how long I can maintain a friendship without them knowing that I run.
