Anyone who has devoted any appreciable time to castigating Deena and Verran as "cheaters" because Deena got info from Clint on Dita's whereabouts is a bonafide loser.

I think they should just forbid women from running in races at all. ever. that would prevent problems like this from occurring in the future.

Brad Hudson was right when he said this website was the best and worst of the running world.

I never said Deena didn't run her ass off, I never said she should be disqualified.

I think its great that a lot of people who for whatever reason felt a little bit uneasy about what they saw and came on here to talk about it. The race wasn't even on tv. That means we were all the hardcore people watching it on the internet. Without this forum this wouldn't be possible. I think most of us are saying that this type of thing should be prevented in the future. I am not trying to take away from deena's win.

And all you can do is attack us with bs attacks.

People probably shouldn't even be posting in this thread unless they saw the race on tv as most people's problem isn't with a women having a rabbit.

I don't really understand the problem. Clint looked back and told Deena what was going on. Did he run back to interfere? Did he run back to slow her down? Nope. He simply turned his head. Hell. Deena would have spent the last mile looking back anyway if Clint wasn't there. He just saved her the trouble. In my own race I turned my head to check if anyone was closing on me about 10 times in the last mile. Does it help your race? Well, it's not going to speed you up but it may prevent you from getting suprised.

When it comes down to it, Deena wanted to run the best of her ability, and if it requires aid, no matter what gender, so be it. Whatever the 2nd placer finisher's name is, she could have also used that aid. Would we be b****in' if say, in some rare circumstance, Paula paced Deena, f*** no. I simply don't see what the b****in' is, if he was a rabbit for her, alright, if he gave her advice, fine! That's what a coach does for his athletes at a track meet or teammates. If I was penalized every time someone told me how far back someone was in a race I would have only won a fraction of the races I ever competed in. Plain and simple Deena wanted to run as fast as she could the best way she knew how, and it was within the rules. GREAT RUN DEENA

I think we should just support her in a job well done regaurdless. its not like she was caufgt with EPO she ran the race under her own strength and all the other women in the race had the same advantages of male wind blockers too.

I have run many races where I encourage people around me. Is it wrong to have rabbits in track just to set world records, get your country men gold metals, and run fast times? if this is the case than we need to reset some world records and take away many metals.

Bannister never broke the 4 minute mile without his pace setters and their encouragemnt. Who was the first legal man to break the 4 min barrier. Webb ran his HS 3:53 against elite runners so should this not count as a high school time since he had an advantage of running with the "big boys" as Deena did?

I have also run in races trying to chase down bikes and pace carts is this any different? some of these races had people I did not know encouraging me. should I have been DQ'd? I agree that Deena running with men is an advantage but men also get to chance with pace vehicles and whether you want to believe it or not runner those vehicles.

I'm not sure what the moral thing is here maybe she did do something wrong but if she did then there have been a lot of popular elite runners who have done the same over the last few decades.

i am REALLY holding back on what i think of this comparison ..needless to say i dont think the comparision is merited.

Whether she wished it or not(dont forget she may NOT have wished this much involvment), Deena was coached and not under anythreat.

Tergat was paced, BUT under a very REAL threat to his victory..BIG BIG BIG differance trackhead.

Agreed ....i have a great deal of respect for Deena, i am not however thrilled with this victoyry(i will leave it at that).

but it just made me mad that you could compare Korirs paceing to Clints..

Korir had every desire to take that Victory from Tergat, and i feel that in a perfect race there should always be the risk of loseing a major race to a pacer(happens fairly often in mens marathons).

there is the argument about lack of competition in womens racing...but so what...there was a time when mens marathons lacked cometition, ..and more racing and less time trialing...can only make it more competitive in my mind.

You all do realize that all marathon world records and for that matter ditance track world records in at least the past 5 years have had pacesetters. How would this be any different? She had a pacesetter for her run. So do the men racing the marathon. Just because it was a guy shouldn't make a difference.

i actually think the comparison of korir and tergat to kastor and verran is completely legitimate

i would imagine korir was paid to pace tergat at a certain pace for at least a certain number of miles before he would leave tergat... and that's just it, he was paid. by the fact that he was paid implies that it benefited tergat's race

same with deena... yeah, clint may have been a benefit to her race but so what, tergat did it too (and radcliffe as far as that goes). fact is these people still have to run the race and time with their own two legs and that is what really matters
