Official William Goodge TransAus World Record Thread, Perth to Sydney, 35 days, 68.5 miles a day

If willc's "obsession" with WG is weird and unhealthy, what should we conclude about your own persistence in lecturing him about it and about life in general?

By definition, everyone here, you included, cares enough about Goodge and Co. to read and post in this thread.

Here are the logically consistent options when posting in this thread: 1. Call Goodge and people like him out; or 2. Defend Goodge and people like him.

I think Goodge is a fraud and should be drummed out of running in all of its forms. I therefore support all efforts to do this.

Posting to dismiss the importance of the thread, or to attack others for their interest in it, is what's known as a performative contradiction. If you really think a topic is a waste of time you will simply ignore it; you will not boost it by posting.

It really isn't much hassle. I just sent them an email containing the data files from my watch and they uodated the NC500 record within a couple of days.

I've never heard of anyone not bothering to ratify a record just because someone better was planning to beat it in the future.

Whether or not the work makes WVLC's life better, it does make the life of ultra runners better. It keeps our sport clean, or at least, it slows down the speed at which it's getting dirtier.

Unfortunately most elite ultrarunners don't want to publicly call this stuff out, because they don't want to threaten their own chances of sponsorship by crticising influencers and their sponsors. So it's hugely beneficial to ultrarunning community a s a whole to have a retired runner do a lot of the groundwork.

99% of society find the bahaviour of all runners bizarre. And I'd say about 99% of runners find ultra runners bizarre. Even most single day ultra runners find multiday running to be bizarre. So I's say about 99.999% of society think running across a continent is a pretty bizarre thing to do.

We are generally quite bizarre people, and as bizarre person, I find what Will C does and his compulsive obsession with fraudulent runfluencers to be quite normal.

If you're going to spend days or weeks, running hundreds or even thousands of miles to break a record, you really want to know that that record is legit!

Goodge appears to have fun the entirety of the Sydney marathon in a highly respectable time of 3:34, per his Strava file. His heart rate is a normal 148 bpm average. Must have been the Iceland trip that whipped him into shape.

Yep, in TransAus he would ping a 5:30K at 115bpm, and here a 5:45 at 155.

But there ain't many who are claiming 13% world records, running 3:39 marathons, however little they claim to be running.

It sure is interesting how much hes downplaying his trans Oz run "record", its almost like hes trying to hide from it.

Less than world class 3.39 for Goodge in todays Sydney marathon has elevated the suspicious chatter on my whatsapp feed. Surely heart rate has to be under 100 for a runner of his class at that speed?

virtually perfect day for running on a relatively hilly course but still saw 3 under 2.07 in the men's with Kipchoge in 8th.

The best way to recover from the TransAus is "little and often". But he point blank refuses to run at all. Completely mystifying. What about cute little 3 milers in 30 minuters? But he won't do them - largely because he hates running, finds it boring, thinks runners are "losers, maggots and gremlins", and doesn't miss it at all.

3.39 is highly respectable?

It is for a beginner runner. Not for someone who makes a career out of it

It's a lot harder when you have to actually run rather than just upload dummy files. For a former rugby player/fitness model it's a perfectly fine time. But yeah it doesn't suggest world class, world record breaking capabilities. Pete Kostelnick could probably do 150 miles at that pace before he has to sleep

Good time for a 60 year old woman, not so great for a ultra running legend.

So he had to stop multiple times because he found it too hard to run 8 minute mile pace?

Do you geezers ever stop to think that Goodge was primarily in Sydney to promote his sponsor Porche with the marathon as a photo op and the time doesn't matter to him? Why do you think Goodge posted all those Porche car photos with him in the cars while in Sydney and hi-fiving people in the marathon?

As for me, I only ride in Bentley's with my chauffer driving.

If you show up at any park in any major city in the USA you will see dozens of WG clones, although he’s not someone most have heard of. It’s a combination of a gym bro, cross fitter and 10k runner. They’d wear weighted vests but then they’d need to wear shirts.
