But until now, I haven't been able to explain exactly WHY it's not working. The MedCram video below might have changed that. I don't usually post links in support of my position unless someone questions my facts. But this one is really exciting and shows a new idea that might make testing into a viable way to stop the pandemic.
Basically, most tests we run today are useless in stopping the spread. That's because by the time you get the test back you are either no longer contagious or you are so sick you are home in bed. So while a positive test is helpful in treatment, it's not helpful in keeping you from infecting others.
Without getting too technical, the video shows an inexpensive paper test that you can do at home and it only requires a little saliva. It's not as sensitive as the standard PCR test we are using now but it's so quick and inexpensive that everyone could take a test every day. Apparently, the only issue is to get FDA approval.
Note that this doctor's videos are usually aimed at med students. But this one should be understandable by almost anyone.
