People here might not like this but got to point it out… a 2:29 at Boston is probably equivalent to a 2:22 at London… making Floberg officially a better marathon runner than even SIRPOC. I’m a huge fan of NSM and Sirp but credit where credits due.
For all those suggesting Floberg start NSM and ask for coaching from SirPoc the other day? Well I hate to break it you but it actually might be James and the modifying Norwegian method crowd who need to be signing up to Mr Flo’s coaching services and embark on some good old FSM !!!
Now who is gonna start the FSM thread on let’s run?
Exactly this - NSM is BS for untalented dudes in their 40s struggling to break 4 hours, not for people at the 2:30 level.
People should look into "Jeff Cunningham" - his methods and single workout weeks are what gets you to the level of floberg, not NSM.

Why look into Jeff when you can be coached by the man himself for a mere $200/month?

I think you are not considering how much environmental aspects can affect a race good/bad.. A 2:24 at London last year could possibly be a 2:21 with perfect conditions on the same course.
15 years old course record was broken today and Korir becomes the 5th person to run sub 2:02.. Massive credit to everyone that ran a PB today but is clear that Boston was PB city today.
I’m actually surprised by LR, but guess I shouldn’t be. Floberg actually seems like a decent dude and has worked for this. Sure his videos are dramatic, but not as dramatic as all these losers hating on him are.

I think his performance today was commendable, but I also think he leverages a thinly-veiled, family man persona & some cinematography skills to grift people. Two things can be true at once.

biggest harp imo which flies under the radar is the ridiculous monthly fee he charges his ~60 fans for 'coaching'. he's blatantly ripping them off and pocketing high 5 figures off of this. its just crappy to do as he's not providing any real value for what he's charging and any serious runner would acknowledge this but floberg doesn't care since it's money in his account and he's oblivious enough to convince himself his non-personalized services are actually worth $2k/yr per individual since hes fostering that sweet sweet running community. but hey, thats capitalist america for ya.
the man grifts the running scene and really does overdramatize everything to the point of ridiculous cringe. he clearly has an audience who loves this kind of content though which continues to surprise me, but i guess i shouldn't be that dumbfounded at how simpleton many viewers who choose to fan over runfluencers would be. floberg also seems to force his way in to be buddy buddy with everyone in the running online space. its funny to see him commenting on everyone and everything when its just him trying to advertise himself and pretend he's friends with all the other cool kids. embarrassing when you zoom out and can see the big picture. he does come off as disengenuine if you can see through the scripted acting like the poster said - he overplays the family man persona when it really isn't all that impressive what he's doing (pretty easy to run and film videos full time with no other job requirement while your spouse watches your 4 children majority of the time)
with how hyped i bet flo is today, i wouldn't put it past him to think an OTQ is actually back on the table lol. you're only 14 minutes away now eric! lets get freaking fit and skip all those baseball games! we're all in for 2028. this guy's got the special sauce of narcisism + self delusion that one needs to do the unthinkable!

Ok, what’s the grift? I’m sure he does ok, but surely he’s not getting rich from all this and if anything, all his running makes him look like not a very good family man.
Edit: I see from another poster he charges a lot for coaching. If people are stupid enough to pay him for coaching, why is that his fault?

All we need now is Fordy to go sub-3 at London and this thread will be a shambles
Fordy to get his BQ in London on Sunday and go on and win the Boston Marathon 2027 in the style of Yuki Kawauchi, wearing a singlet saying “F*ck Letsrun.com”
You all have lost the plot. It's not that deep, man. I'd NEVER pay the guy to train me, but if people are going to pay for it, and feel happy with their training, then so be it. Yes he's cringe as hell, but just don't engage with his stuff and live your life. I'm all for making fun of people, but the level of vitriol from some of these people on here is equally as cringe. It's just running ffs.

It’s not, but I’d argue charging (presumably) more novice runners ~$150/mo for cookie-cutter coaching is petty swindling, aka grifting. Not to get on a soapbox, but I don’t respect it and it’s not something I’d engage in even though I’ve had the opportunity to do so, albeit on a smaller scale.
The haters could make excuses about the weather and say there ought to be an asterisk. Nonsense. Some people achieve their goals by being right on the cusp for years and taking a million shots until they have the perfect day. It's not easy to stay in shape for that long and keep showing up. All those attempts are earned. Barring some nonsense like a Revel course, when it finally happens, the time is the time. He's a sub 2:30 guy.
Right after his 8k he said he's "going off for two weeks" for the peak of the training cycle. He did two hard workouts that week. But the week after that was very light: a treadmill workout of 15 x 600m @ 5:18 w/ 1min recovery (objectively an easy workout for a 2:30 guy, especially considering how his treadmill paces are deceptive). And then he did no other workout. Long run was 16mi easy.
Pivoting to a 3 week taper was smart and probably made the difference today. Not that it's how you'd plan it from the start, but it was a good adjustment. Hopefully he learned something about how hard he can push himself mid-cycle so that he can go into his peak workouts ready to nail them and still be fresh on race day with a normal taper.
If he's learned that lesson (or if Jeff Cunningham has now figured out how to manage him to get the right result), and if he'd simply recover -> base training -> Fall marathon cycle without any other nonsense, he can roll this forward to another PR.
