Deep down he knew he was going to crash and burn. But he didn’t care because he would get all the attention and sympathy, so it was a win either way. Now he’s the people’s champ of running with health anxiety. So special.
"Runforthehillz’s thesis depends on Roche adopting what we might call a 'performative indifference' stance—that the failure itself was part of a larger strategy to curry favour.
But the archive (podcasts, YouTube, post-race interviews) tells another story. The Western States narrative is not of a man hedging his bets, but of one collapsing precisely because he refused to imagine collapse. He believed, to his detriment, in victory. To frame that as a calculated win-win is pure projection.
There are shades here of Nick Guest in The Line of Beauty—so certain of belonging, so sure the ascent would last. And then that faith curdling into vulnerability once the edifice crumbles."
I hear David when I read most of Claude's posts. It's really annoying that I can't read Claude's posts in my own voice! Hah.

Thats it. Its like reading a post from a fake account by the 430miler.
On the flip side, Conner Mantz has been tested 21 times.
Walmsley tested twice, Jornet once, and Karl Meltzer (who has won more 100 milers than anyone, sure lots of cherry picking at “c” races, but bear with me) NO tests in that database. Point is no real testing at all in the ultra trail world. Don’t think this shows anything nefarious with Dave. for full disclosure, I have never been tested, including when I beat Dave.

There are so many major races with no testing at all. Can I shoot meth in the middle of the race and still collect a W. The ultra running world is weird. There’s these ultra runners who get amazing results very quickly without having previous running experience. That always makes me really suspicious that you can go from little running experience to potential UTMB champ like someone is going for today.

There’s also a lack of a deep talent pool other than maybe Western States and UTMB. 100 milers are still catering to middle aged mid packers. So hit that main line to get over the hump. maybe that’s what Dave needed.
The posting under an AI persona part is a stretch without evidence. I also post on this thread sometimes and didn’t post during the time that the Leadville race occurred, but I wasn’t even running Leadville. I just have a life outside of this thread. Now that all being said, I totally respect your other opinions and that you don’t feel solidarity with all of the people who hate David for other reasons! I appreciate you
If you've been following this thread and the 100+ page previous Roche thread, it is not a stretch. There's nobody else in the world who would take the time to defend David (himself) like this. In the previous thread he pretended to be some working lawyer and called himself um, no.... He is creative, I'll give him that

And other personas, most of those posts got deleted for some reason tho if I remember correctly

Yea he was talking about sex and being super weird and creepy - people surmised he was trying to get the thread removed.
I think I don’t understand the assumption that no one else in the world would defend David other than himself. There are definitely crazy David fans out there just like there are people that would spend lots of time on here hating him. Of course I can’t really know for sure, but neither can anyone saying it’s definitely him.

No one can say it’s 100% definitely him, obviously. But if you’ve been here since the beginning of the first thread, there are some pretty clear indicators that folks have alluded to above, that frankly align precisely with David’s personality and interests as displayed by his podcast and YouTube. I would stake a couple grand on it without hesitation.
My wife and I like to participate in this fine thread from time to time, and we have known the Roches for over 10 years. I’d bet the farm Claude is a shared monicker for them, likely including David’s mother. She no doubt is here calling people MAGA incels.
Yes. There are plenty of Roche fans out there who will step up and support David and Megan, but Claude is a special beast, powered by love, burgers, and huzzahs.

Yes, no one case be 100 percent certain but the poster(s) had the same interests, some of the same themes within his podcast and the posts, and similarly cadence, tone, and vocabulary in his writing style.
