The data is a month old, so I await you retort that vaccines that have been proven to be remarkably effective in preventing serious illness and death as of January, 2022 have somehow become totally ineffective over the last month or so.

1. Your link is 6 months old, possibly the problems with reporting breakthrough infections have been minimized or corrected.
2. Your link says the problem is limited to a dozen or more states. It doesn't identify them. But you assume NY is one of them, and that the NY numbers are unreliable. Again, your bias is showing.
3. The latest data from NY says that the unvaccinated are being admitted to hospitals with Covid at a rate that is 14 times greater than the fully vaccinated. That's a pretty significant difference to attribute to a reporting problem.
Unvaccinated Texans are 7 times more likely to test positive for Covid than those who are fully vaccinated.
Unvaccinated Texans are 45 times more likely to die of a Covid related illness than those who are fully vaccinated.

The unvaccinated with disease-acquired immunity aren't dying - so I question those numbers as most Americans have either been vaccinated or recovered from prior infection. And as I said before on these threads naturally immunity is winning the day.

This is over the last 120 days and cumulative. The rates for the 12-29 group have actually gone down, but the rates for the 80+ group have rapidly increased in the last few weeks.

At the time I posted, my statement was correct. The numbers have since changed and I've acknowledged that multiple times.
As usual you don't realize that stridently arguing that being an unvaxxed young adult places you at 50% the risk of hospitalization of someone OVER 80 YEARS OLD is supporting the vaccine (and the mandates, and my genius, and everything else I believe in, but I digress...).
This is outstanding evidence of the efficacy of vaccine. 80+ year olds are highly vulnerable to respiratory infections and 3 doses of the vax makes them only twice as likely to be hospitalized as the youngest young adults pre-vaccine. Truly remarkable.

If you do surveys of African countries, something like 80% of people have been exposed either to the vaccine or to various variants. What that does is it means the chance of severe disease, which is mainly related to being elderly and having obesity or diabetes, those risks are now dramatically reduced because of that infection exposure.
It's sad, we didn't do a great job on therapeutics. Only here, two years in, do we have a good therapeutic. Vaccines took us two years to get to oversupply. Today there are more vaccines than there are demand for vaccines. And that wasn't true. And next time we should try and make it instead of two years, we should try and make it like six months.
