28th woman is Purity Rioniripo, third in Nagoya in 2.22.56. Last December was seventh in Valencia in 2.20.39. That was her second time under 2.21 after her win in Paris in 2017. Her husband also won on that course that year.

Next is Helen Bekele Tola, second in Tokyo last year and fourth in Berlin: both sub 2.21.40. Sixth in Nagoya just 8 weeks ago (seems like 6 months), but close up behind third and fourth.
Number 30 for me is Mao Ichiyama who won Nagoya in 2.20.29 to get the last spot for Japan at the home Olympics.

Was a big breakthrough, my mini bio here:
11th may be Mao Ichiyama, 22 yo and ranked equal 155th. Was fifth in Marugame last month in 68.56. March last year in her debut at this classic distance was seventh in Tokyo in 2.24.33. Was 15th in London then sixth at the Grand Champs.
Back to number 31 next in the men after five women’s profiles catching up.

Emmanuel Saina, before this time last year had two sub 2.05.45 performances but was less than inspiring in Valencia. This is my profile from then:
My choice for second is my favourite marathoner. Emmanuel Saina is 27yo and ranked 20. In the last fourteen months has run three marathons under 2.05.45. Quickest was in Dubai when 4th behind his two biggest competitors here in 2.05.02. since then was 3rd in Rotterdam in 2.05.42. Here is the copy i wrote about him then:
This is a deep field, fifth finisher should be Emmanuel Saina. He is 26yo and ranked 26. If he does well here, i would like to see how he goes in a major. Was 4th in Dubai this January and won his only marathon of last year in Buenos Aries in 2.05.21, fastest ever at the time on that continent. Recorded amazing 5k splits between 25 and 30 of 14.09, then from 30 to 35 of 14.12 to burn off a field including Kipserem.
And here is what i wrote about those two 5k splits on a bio on Christian Pacheco:
His best time of 2.11.19 was recorded in the incredible Buenos Aries marathon last year. Outstanding race because the winner, Emmanuel Saina, laid down amazing 5k splits between 25 and 35k to crush the field. Those splits were 14.09 and 14.12. If any man (Kipchoge may be the only one) could maintain those splits for a whole marathon, they would finish in 1.59.37. Pacheco was third then
Dude can you stop? What even is this thread right now. Write in your journal or something.
Next woman is Bedatu Hirpa. Just turned 21, was third in Dubai in 2.21.55 after last year's fifth in Tokyo then blowing up in Frankfurt. In that German experience was fifth at 30k in 1.38.51, then took 19.13 and 23.16 in the next two 5k splits to finish 14th.
Next woman is your mom with an incredible last 5km split of 18:21

Is posting this way a compulsion of your mental illness? That’s so bleak.

Vincent Toroitich (Kipchumba) had some experts at year end putting him in their top ten. Official rankings have him at 5. He won two marathons last year after five years without one time sub 2.10. Won Vienna in 2.06.56 then Amsterdam in 2.05.09. Comfortable with him at 23 here.
When doing my profiles six weeks ago for the original iteration of the London marathon, i was up to seventh: Kipserem, and had planned Kitata next, then Vincent.
Here is my 7th bio:
Seventh to finish should be Marius Kipserem, 31yo and ranked 9. Won Rotterdam last April in 2.04.11 after winning on the short course of Abu Dhabi in December the previous year in 2.04.04. Solidifies a place in the top ten of marathon running with a positive result here. With Legese winning Tokyo: if Desisa, Cherono and yimer fill the podium in Boston; that leaves the top six here to fill the top ten in my opinion. The only exception to that is Kamworor who was running the world half champs in Poland that are postponed until the fall.

Then at 24, Edna Kiplagat, now 40yo, down 4 places from year end. Second in Boston then fourth in the humidity at worlds. 2011-14 were great years for Edna, ruled the world. Rankings of 2,6, 3, and 5 by Track and Field News in those years.
I was able to get further with the original start list of the Boston event. After Edna at 7, i had Besu Sado and Mare Dibaba following. Made it to 13 with the wife of a Robertson filling that position. Here is my bio of Mary Wacera at 10 then:
Next woman might be Mary Wacera, 31yo and ranked 208. Seventh here last year in 2.28.33 then tenth in NY in 2.27.36. One day Mary must surely work it out. 2.27.xx just doesn’t cut it when you have four half finishes under 68 minutes.

Thanks Streak, these threads are my journal, my blog. I might write just some women’s profiles for a few days because I think I have a good handle on this next ten or so athletes without leaving out any other contenders. The men are a little more tricky around this part. Once you drop back to that 2.06 level there is a pack hard to choose from.

Okay, cool. I apologize for being a jerk about it. That was very judgmental of me. You keep enjoying doing your thing.

32 is Vivian Kiplagat, six wins and a second in 7 marathons over the last 25 months. Cherry on top was her PB in Abu Dhabi last December of 2.21.11.

Apology accepted. Next two had better years in 2018 than last year or this one so far, but you have to include class even without recent form.

34. Meskerem Assefa. Would have been interesting if Boston went ahead in April, I pencilled her in for second. They boasted about having eight sub 2.21 women. I thought Rose Chelimo may have run third ahead of the debutant: Caroline Kipkirui.

My bio for Rose then:
Next lady might be Rose Chelimo, 30yo and ranked 90. 90? A joke. Cannot be always about the time. Second behind Ruth in the smothering humidity while the Ethiopians wilted at Worlds as the defending champ. Was second here in 2017 in 2.22.51. In my top 20 from last year at 13.
