Whenever I hear "Do you have the time to listen to me whine...." I instinctively shout "No, I don't!" as I lunge for the radio button to switch stations.

A few years ago my girlfriend dragged me to a Dave Matthews concert. He's a good musician, blah, blah, blah, Just not my thing. I was telling my girlfriend (as I observed members of the very yuppie crowd attempting to dance) that I now knew what happened to all the Hootie and the Blowfish fans.

On the other hand, Billy Joel rocked then and he rocks now. Same girlfriend took me to see him a couple of years ago for my birthday and I was blown away by how good he is live. Just a matter of what one likes or dislikes.

Both Bruce and ‘Billy’ are from New Jersey...coincidence? I think not.

Well put! I have a lot of respect for Dave’s talent as a musician and I enjoyed the early FF stuff which directly succeeded Nirvana (I was a preteen and my musical tastes were still being formed). I’ve occasionally wondered why I don’t enjoy them as much anymore and I think you hid the nail on the head. Definitely not the worst IMO but FF really does just sound bland to me now. Everything post-The Color and the Shape drones on with the same sound and shallow lyrics.

I am guessing that your knowledge of Billy and his music is not that great if you think he is from New Jersey and his music is trite.

Mark Riviera (saxophonist and multi instrumentalist) is there since 1982, De Vito would have been close to original in 70's.
