Drew MF Hunter just made Team USA for WC!!

Do you not understand how the USATF Championships work? It is all about having the standard by the end of your race and being top 3 WITH the standard in the race, not necessarily top 3 in the race. These are the rules that are in place. Nothing you say makes the rules any different. Hunter qualified based on the existing rules.

Absolutely! I don't (yet) know if, during the race, he realized his 5th place would still put him on the Worlds team, or if he felt stymied by something like the heat, or an injury of some sort. I would think that most level-headed runners (and I sense that Drew is level-headed) learn from their errors. It helps that even Drew's measly 5th place finish still propels him to a higher opportunity in Doha (the positive far outweighs the negative). So he "learns by doing", and such experience is money in the bank, used by Drew to be even better next time. "Better" is a relative term, and anything that qualifies as "better" for him in Doha, and/or beyond, is worth celebrating, even though he's not quite at the top of his peer group yet.

I don't think you understand what the purpose of this race actually is. This guy wasn't running to win or to hit the standard. NO BALLS. I am trying not to sound like a hater but what did he want a participation medal?

The guys who finished ahead of Drew all have PRs of 13:12i-12:57, and the three guys behind him are 13:17, 13:02, 8:08st. Clearly this was a breakthrough race for Drew, he would be sub-13:10 in an even-paced race, and he has raced it seriously only twice, age 21. He is batting with the big boys now.

2) If they were going to have the meet this early, they should have allowed you to chase the standard.

they do the right thing by accident only.

When they stop running 5 & 10k's in Des Moines in the middle of summer and start doing it in Portland or Seattle then you'll get very different top finishers.

If Kincaid got the standard and didn't finish top 3 it wouldn't of mattered because everyone ahead of him would have also gotten the standard. And had he run just to get the standard there is no way he would have finished top 3. He would of had to lead for several laps and would've been out kicked. He ran in a way that tried to achieve both getting top 3 and the standard and came up just a little short, it was a smart move after running a 4:07 first mile but unfortunately it didn't work out for him.

I don't need to smoke anything to understand how numbers work. A 13:21 guy does not beat Casey, True and Bor and finish a few seconds off of a bunch of 13:0x guys unless he took a big step up. Although...his 7:39 3K converts to a 13:09, so in that respect he is just evening up his events.
