Boulder is overrated. I want to move.

The BroJos may not be terribly bright yet they rightly understand that traffic to this site would dwindle if they implemented measures to curb trolling and thus cut the low 5-figure revenue they generate by half.

He tells the truth. I have lived in and around Boulder off and on since the mid 80s. The city is very, very expensive. It has become very crowded. 40+ MPH winds in the winter are not unusual. I live in Estes Park and winds often top 50 MPH here and sometimes are in the 70s or 80s. When there are no or light winds the winter can be pleasant. On a calm day with the sun out I have run outside in shorts and a windbreaker when the temperature is in the low to mid twenties. That is rare however. I moved here from Texas and spend more time running on the treadmill due to bad weather here than I ever did in Texas.

Boulder is not that pricey compared to the coasts. the very low property taxes in boulder andin Colorado attract wealthy retirees from the coasts. People from Colorado don’t seem to understand this since boulder is probably very high property taxes relative to Colorado but very low compared to places like CA or NJ. Not sure about NV

You are right. It just comes down to the standard of comparison I guess. I have lived on both coasts and Boulder property taxes are comparatively low. Like someone else noted, every city has good and bad points. You just need to look at the total picture and keep in mind what aspects of life you are trying to optimize.

The serious answer is no, they do not, but I wasn't being racist, I was being ironic. I made those numbers up, but the point was to show that only a tiny fraction of minorities live in Boulder and that the ones who do are generally neither permanent residents (like the CU students) or thriving (like the homeless or the minimum wage slaves). Anyone with any influence or power in the city is white.

A valid observation. I think Sage mentioned he likes to surround himself with people like himself. I think that is typical of most. The joke in Colorado is that Boulder is 25 square miles surrounded by reality.

The thing I notice most is people complaining online all the time about how Boulder somehow still doesn’t suit them the ways they want/ to their own agenda. Newspaper articles in the local paper (the Daily Camera) come out on various topics and there are always a ton of nasty comments from people. They all seem to despise every member of our city council (call them all clowns ie “city clowncil”) but at the same time the record shows they didn’t bother showing up to vote them in/out last election so not sure why they are so bitter. Instead of taking action it’s easier to just complain all the time behind a keyboard.

Boulder hasn't been a decent place to live in at least 25 years. Maybe 30. Way too crowded, way too many transplants from the east and west coasts trying to "pursue the dream," and way too expensive. Many of the semi-permanent residents are people who simply don't want to grow up.

It was great for runners in the mid 80s to early 90s... not even remotely the same place.

Lived in Boulder for 9 years now and the weather is mild, snow light, summers mild and not much wind...so I'm not sure of what you're talking about...maybe you live in Gun Barrel or one of the burbs?

Good observation. I think the complaining often comes from those who are feeling powerless or disenfranchised in some way. I think online forums, op-ed, letters to the editor, etc. provide a way to vent frustrations. You may see a lot of complaining about Boulder due to the relatively high 13% poverty rate in the city. This is exacerbated by the local income disparity. Boulder has a relatively high median income but the poverty rate in the city is higher than the state rate.

It's hardly ever "windy" in Boulder. And if it is windy, it seems to very rarely last longer than 12 hours.

I grew up in Florida and I decided to go to CU Coulder for my first semester of college. Maybe its because Im used to hot humid weather year round but Boulder was really underwhelming. One of the reasons I chose to go there, as one might expect of a LRCer, was because of the running scene. I transferred there in august and its real nice outside, did some nice trail runs and explored the area. By freaking late September the weather had become disgusting. Admittedly it'd be nice one day but the next it'd be cold as balls constantly sprinkling making everything wet, windy as hell, and the snow would just turn to slush on the ground. Honestly think it contributed to me having some sort of seasonal affective disorder because it was making me miserable all the time. In my honest opinion, the weather blows for a lot of the year.

As far as the running goes, everyone seems to forget Boulder is still a city. If you live anywhere close to the middle and don't wanna drive to get to your run, you are gonna be dodging cars and bikes and stopping every hundred yards for intersections. Its not some paradise where every street has groomed trails where runners have the right of way. If your like me and lived on campus the only thing close to me was the boulder creek path which is sketchy as hell when its dark (which it usually is by about 4PM every day in the later months). If you do have time to get to trails every day between 8am and 4pm when it isn't dark, good luck at finding a parking spot. After that, have fun not running on them on pretty much any winter month when they are covered in slosh mud and snow.

As far as the culture and college there goes, the "party scene" is completely underwhelming unless you are in a fraternity. I spent most of my weekend nights in my dorm room playing battlefield because I had tried so many times unsuccessfully to go out to with no luck. The culture there is pretty neat and it was cool to say I lived in Colorado, but to me never really matched the home feel of living in the south. They don't even have a chic fil a which seems almost criminal. Admittedly its probably the most gorgeous city in the US that I have yet to see, but living there truly underwhelms.

Back to the heat it's not terrible, and you can work around it, but 95 every day for two months does get old.

I'm in the camp that Fort Collins > Boulder. Outdoors it easily Boulder. Fort Collins isn't bad but Boulder is pretty top notch. Having Horsetooth though is a nice perk for water lovers.

City wise though, fort Collins is way better. Great downtown, excellent food/beer scene, vibrant crowd/energy heavily of young 20s to mid 30s, very low crime, incredible trail/bike lane commuting infrastructure, etc.

I don't find the traffic bad. It's better than I have found in any big city, and feel less annoying than say Boulder or other places. It's also way better in summer with school out.
