Newton Distance line is a fanTAStic option for this thread. I prefer current uppers with the 4 lugs of the old / Elite models. The "sock-like" fit of the Elite doesn't quite work for me. Have you tried the 7s?

Another vote for these - by far my favourite shoe in over 3 decades of running.
Light enough for racing and speed work. Have also run 40+M runs in them. Cushioning is lovely and the last seems to give them great stability.
It's a tragedy they are not being made anymore, but word is that Altra are releasing a similar shoe early next year.
I was sorely disappointed when the 3.0 was released. Firm, heavier and nothing like the 2.5 at all.
Glad to hear there may be a similar replacement. But the 2.5 is still my go to shoe now. I have 4 pairs left.

DS Trainer 22 i'm using right now are 8 ounces and feel so nimble.
Last year's GT 2000 6, which are very supportive shoes, reduced their weight to 10.5 ounces thanks to FlyteFoam.
Roadhawk FF introduced many new concepts in Asics shoe design and were praised by many runners i know (8.6 oz).
Also durability is very good, i've retired many Asics shoes for sole wearing that still carry a perfect upper.

I am no "expert", but Asics, Brooks, and interestingly Saucony (Everrun notwithstanding) to me are just regular shoes... dead-feeling, high-drop, poor-cushion-to-weight-ratio shoes produced by content manufacturers who got passed by companies willing to innovate with new shapes and materials. Hell, Reebok and Skechers... REEBOK AND SKECHERS... have been more innovative than those guys... All we need now is for K Swiss to release a Pebax midsole soon. Granted, Saucony's Everrun & Brooks WhateverDesiRanIn have some promise for the future, but even so, they got a late start by several years.
