Bad day all around, Cain looked out of her element from the start. Hope she can bounce back and have a decent career but I'd imagine this was a big step backwards. Who is coaching her these days? I'm assuming there were some workouts/time trials that indicated she was fit enough to race at this level, otherwise this is just inexcusable.
Is she done forever, rojo? Seems more likely with each passing month without a good result (or any result).

Obviously she's lining up against women who have actually competed in the past two years, but are you telling us that you could tell just by looking at her that she was out of her depth? And if so, then how? What did you see?

She wasn’t nearly as lean as the rest of the field. I know everybody has a different optimal race weight, and I hope this thread doesn’t devolve into fat shaming, but Cain looked out of place before the race even began.
Okay, I apologize and I take back my question. I wasn't thinking and was not trying to start that discussion/debate.
Is anyone else super curious about what would have happened to Cain in the NCAA? Similar to hasay? Even hasays “poor” performance during / after college is miles ahead of this. I suspect a psychological issue underlying this and am suspicious of al sals role in her decline.....

Did you see the race? I'm usually skeptical of the "eye test," but in this case I agree with Rojo. In the few shots of her before the race, she just didn't look to be in the same shape as everyone else. It wasn't even close.
I said this the day she went Pro and I'll say it again. She will never run any thing significant.
Maybe it's possible but not for her in the path she took. The line of progress is never straight up but when you put that amount of pressure on yourself and every time you race expect to compete highly and win, it makes it hard to get through the rough patches. If she had gone to college she could have gotten through that with less eyes on her and less pressure on herself. She'd have a bad race but place highly. Ages 16-22 lots of things are going on with Females(but males too) so to try to always be at your absolute best it's tough.
The point of going Pro had to be to make teams, how many Olympic or World Champ teams has Cain or Efraimson made? 1?
They should have gone to college, they would both be running better if they went to college. Their careers wouldn't be over if they had went to college.

Agreed she's not as lean, but I wouldn't have ruled her out for that. Heck, Yuki Kawauchi has 10%+ body fat.

I wouldn't be that pessimistic. She just came back after a 2 years hiatus, so it's pretty normal she misjudged her form and as someone pointed out, she has some weight to lose. Give her some time.

I'd love to and we all will. But where is the path to being on teams? Who can she ever beat? While she's missing time and having bad races other women are running amazing. A mistake was made and it cost her what might have been a great career. Yes this was 1 race, but it's been a LONG time and for someone who was skeptical of her continued success when she was actually running well, I have a hard time seeing a path for this to turn around.
