Anyone of interest current supporting Kiprop in Kenya would be wise to not do so publicly.
He says at least two noted anti-doping campaigners, Eliud Kipchoge and Vivian Cheruiyot, have reached out and told him they believe him, risking their own reputations. Vivian, especially, is interesting because she has been vocally scathing about Jemima Sumgong in particular. Coming from the initial shock and anger, it appears Kenyan elites are choosing not to automatically condemn and isolate him as they’ve done with others who’ve failed tests. All Manangoi could say in that profile is Asbel is his hero and “I hope he is cleared”. And now that Instagram picture of him out for drinks with Conseslus, Rudisha and Ezekiel Kemboi, all fervent ‘clean sports’ advocates.
So ADAK have disowned the Simon guy meaning they have no case to answer about their testers giving athletes a heads up. Second, $32 dollars is not a bribe in any country. And third, the dates just don’t add up.
I am on record, on this forum, condemning Asbel for letting Kenya down, but I’m starting to think I may have been too hasty and should just wait and see how it unfolds.
I never said people wouldn't support him. I just said they'd be wise not to. We will see who ends up being correct, me or them.
Unfortunately I really don't think it is as simple as ADAK disowning the corrupt tester and expecting all the questions from the IAAF, AIU and WADA to go away. That's not how it works. Maybe it's just a part of Westernern culture that someone from Kenya couldn't understand ;).
