Yes, this storm is large but it was NOT unexpected and we've seen, time and again and again and again, the severity and damage even smaller weather events bring to the region.

Hey dooosher, you are right, I am sure every city that is capable of being hit by a hurricane, including the east coast, is fully prepared and fully EXPECTING to be hit by a storm this size for a freaking week!!
My neighborhood, that is fully prepared for the worst, still wasn't able to prevent this.
And you are dumb to think that every neighborhood in the country will have the resources to fight a week long hurricane.
And you doosher, ALL new neighborhoods in houston are being built with hurricanes in mind, BUT...
