That is great, then you won't be asking for federal handouts. After all you voted down help to the northeast for Sandy, it would be hypocritical for Cruz and the rest to ask for money now. Texas was the only state to refuse to help the northeast.

Texas is only 13th in GDP per capita, despite its natural resources and pro-business government. By your own standard, NY and CA get more sh*t done.

Gotta love team politics. Reality is Sandy was a nothing storm, Historical speaking the NE is due for something 10x worse than Sandy. The Sandy bailout package was all about pork projects.

Houston will be fine, we didn't even need the government, once big government gotta out the way things got done. In my area we got a 2000 person shelter going, literally 1000's of evacuations were completed, almost 100% by locals volunteers, not using 911 but by Facebook and them just being out there. It is absolutely incredible. I am not a Texas native but after this will consider myself Texan. I lived through another flooding disaster in Canada, there government just got in the way, and caused more hardship than help.

I am on the SouthWestside of Houston we got 5ft of rain (yes 5 ft not 5 inches) and tropical force winds for days and non-stop tornado warnings, but virtually no power outages, internet stayed up. How's that for preparation, my community is underwater, I can only get to my house by boat. Yet I would 100% support no fed funds --- provided all the Sandy pork is paid back and when the NE gets hit with a real hurricane, which will happen, no money then either.

Historically speaking the NE is almost as prone to hurricanes as Houston, but is vastly less prepared as Sandy demonstrated, this despite a much more favorable geography.

These hurricanes are not an act of good. There are mathematical models by meteorologists and climatologists used to give probability of hurricanes. There are infrastructure plans that may be built to save cities. Some have stated Houston is liberal city. Building to protect against a hurricane is a state budget/federal budget matter. Aid to Texas should occur because Texas is part of USA. AID to TEXAS SHOULD COME with a COST! Texas needs a 7.5% state income tax like normal states.

You have to be kidding! See Ted Cruz, October/November/December, 2012. The Texas Libertarian had a lot to say regarding bailing out New Jersey and New York post Hurricane Sandy. There should be federal money sent to TX. There should be money with a condition! This hurricane was not an Act of God. I need Texan politicians to admit climate change is real. I need a public admission from Cruz and other Texan politicians that climate change is real. I need a commitment that Texas will spend their state tax payer money to build to save Galveston and Houston with the knowledge that climate change is real. Why should USA tax payers in IL/NY/CA/MN who know hurricanes are correlated with climate change agree to bail out TX without TX showing they will change their ways?
