Just as an update, some guy has claimed that he gave her a ride through a significant stretch of the trail in Shenandoah National Park without knowing she was in the middle of a record attempt.
That should put an end to this, unless she keeps claiming otherwise, in which case it's about to get MUCH uglier.
I've "dated" a few of these types. Great in bed 50% of the time, duds 50%. In any case kick them out the door the minute you are finished. Better yet "date" them at their place, don't let them know where you live.

There is a slight chance she has acid-tripped her way through a daze of all night hiking benders. Sometimes cheap acid is cut with meth. That could also contribute to insomnia and increased focus. But usually with those drugs people will have a comedown where they need to rest and recuperate. She probably has done large stretches at a time then yellow blazed and slept in a lot. Or... she is just a powerful woman who can hike on and on. Mind over matter? Yannis the ultra runner who holds a lot of records used to sleep only two hours a night for a few years when he was building his house.
The chance she actually pulled this off... less than 1 percent chance. I'd like to see where she goes with this story as the days go on. She'll probably just fade away.

This may have been mentioned previously (I did not go through the entire thread), but go through her facebook pics and notice how her ink switches back and forth between her left and right shoulders.
Some folks on the Ultra List have blown up some of the AT photos and feel they are clearly photoshopped.

Besides the 2190 miles of the trail, she would've had to hike off trail to refuel and resupply since she was doing it self-supported.
She didn't wear a SPOT device, which Anish did.
And of course, it's for charity.

Kaiha Bertollini I did mention it, to everyone! No one was paying attention until I actually did it. I've been talking about it for months and posting my progress. This. Leave her alone unless it's to congratulate her on a truly amazing accomplishment. I know I would want a few days (or weeks) to recoup too after such a crazy hike!

I met Kaiha on the first night of her yo-yo. I was three days from finishing the trail, and thought little of it. We also met Karl the day before, I got a picture with him. I'm not going to judge the merit of her attempt, but I will add to her folklore.
She rolled into camp around 8, pretty late for a hiker. We were hanging up our food bags, and she silently came over and hung hers on our line. I thought it was pretty odd for someone to come in southbound and know what they were doing so close to the start. The first thing that I found odd was that she asked if a smartwater bottle was hers. I said, it can't be ours, its way to clean. And she responded, that's interesting, because I've carried it since Georgia. As we got to talking, she told us about here NOBO hike. She got injured, and spent a month at a farmstead. We were told she was hiking to raise awareness for the farmstead, because they were going out of business. She also told us she wanted to hike in under 80 days, so the plan was to do 30 mile days, every day. The next morning I woke up, and one of my hiking partners told me that she had packed up her things and left around 10 pm. Naturally, we were all asleep by then.
I've met people that have attempted the unsupported record. One guy in particular who had put in 50+ mile days. He previously hiked the PCT and the Te Araroa (New Zealand's distance trail) in that calendar year. He was so wiped out by day 15 he abandoned the plan. He did finish the AT, but was very happy to bag his plan.
Why anyone would want to attempt a FKT is beyond me. But know this, the AT is not a walk in the park. I've run quick enough to be in better shape than most of the thru-hikers coming in to the trail. The only way to have trail legs, is to be on the trail, not thru 5ks, marathons, anything. It took one of the greatest ultra-runners of all time 3 attempts, and every mention I've heard from someone who saw Jurek in Maine, said he was a zombie. I hope that if she is reporting the FKT she is being honest, but she also signs shelter logs (if she does) with something along the lines of "do whatever you want, because nobody knows what the f^%# they're talking about." Either way, congrats on finishing your thru-hike.

Ginger Patch, thanks for your post. After reading the forums over at WhiteBlaze and seeing your post, I am inclined to say there is no way it's true. Do I believe someone COULD do it, yes. Was it her? No.
If she was indeed in camp at 8pm and out at 10pm, what was even the point of coming in? Why not just keep going down the trail? The lack of GPS, the reports of her hitching rides down the trail in the Shenandoahs, her overall narcissistic behavior AND the fact that she just did a NoBo before turning right around for a SoBo attempt?
Is there a way to look at shelter logs and get a picture of at least some timestamps? This might be totally impossible but would add a bit of curiosity to her attempt.
Also, can we all agree that even if she did not break the record that it is possible to break the record in her manner? - i.e..
using a runner as a rabbit
not sleeping
being a female
walking
coming into it sans knowledge of endurance sports
... this describes her, and I think the record can be broken in this way.

Since she accepted rides (and arguably things friends left to her on the trail) she cannot be considered for the self-supported record.
Sexual abuse... Wasn't Rob Young claiming similar stuff?
