Parkrun is probably great for people in countries that don't have much in the way of organized sports/leisure activities, but this is NOT an issue in the US. If anything, we overdo organization here. Whatever sport, hobby, or activity you're into, we have a million clubs and groups. My local running store has multiple group runs every week. My gym keeps trying to get me to join their run club. There are 5Ks and all over my city all the time along with a big 10 miler and marathon every year.

No. To have them here cities require you to get permits/insurance,thus making parkrun not free
