Very well said. As someone who competes against Georgetown regularly, I wish them the same.

What they are about is money. They are most certainly not about the "student-athletes".

I appreciate you commenting on my thoughts. I was not focused on racism. I to disapprove of the unjust assertion of racism where none exists. Whether it does on GU track is to be determined. I referenced GU's statement only to reinforce that GU thinks there's an issue on the team at least with respect to hazing, etc. I do not know the athlete, but her complaints to GU (at least what's posted on line) did not concern racism, but rather coaching and her summary removal from the team apparently without a reason given to her. Great coaches do not refuse to coach athletes. Great coaches know that each person is different and responds to different techniques. Great coaches know that one size does not necessarily fit all. Great coaches get the most from their athletes, they don't give up on them. I think she is complaining about that more than racism. And in my view, she is justified in doing so. Just my 2 cents.

You mean the 250k +\- we pay for many of their educations? You have an argument worth considering in the revenue sports...but track and field? Come on...

Wouldn't the Gtown coaches have advised her to increase her mileage to a certain level over the summer? Her HS base wasn't that far below what she started running in college.

After viewing running photos of her online, it appears McDonald's, Dunkin Doughnuts and Kentucky Fried Chicken are a lot more to blame than the Gtown coaches.

Good points. Yes, coaches should be aware of what incoming athletes had done previously and what they did in the summer leading into September.

That said, going from 40 mpw to 60 mpw is a 50% increase in volume;

same for moving from an 8 mile long run to a 16 mile long run. Could that progression be made over the summer prior to heading to college?

It's possible, but we don't know when she ended her senior season or when she started summer training for her freshman year at G-Town. The last result

I saw for her was her state meet at the end of April. I did not see her name in the 2013 New Balance Outdoor meet results, so maybe she was injured or maybe she just wanted to end her season after the Florida state meet.

Here's what she said on her blog on Oct. 2, 2013 at the Florida mile split site:

"I’m going on long runs, that if someone asked me three months ago if I could run that far, I’d think they were absolutely crazy." She has also recently written that she had a big jump in training volume at the start of college, so it seems as though there wasn't a prolonged build up to 60/16.

I'd rather see freshman women have an increase of no more than 5%

in total training volume that first year, even at the DI level. Can some handle more? Sure, but why risk injury. The students have enough to adapt to.

In what way is a college track program at a private, not-for-profit university a business?

Could someone please summarize what the heck is going on at Georgetown. I have read 7 pages of this and still can't figure it out.

Sheer stupidity by the coaches.

40 to 60 is stupidity? Okay.

Yes, 40 to 60 mow in a short time frame is unwise for a young female runner.

Georgetown takes federal money they cant not provide services then tell kids to redshirt til they get a sprint coach then announce they are only recruiting distance runners ask the iowa state coach why he got fired at oklahoma because he refused to give up any scholarships to the very events and people who were scoring pints so what does he do he goes to iowa state and hires 7 distance coaches until this year when he got pressured to hire other distances

is she being a crybaby ? not when they refuse to coach her and refuse to give athletes they recruit services at a catholic school that makes all its money exploiting black kids in basketball so the white kids on the distance team can exist so no systematic institutional racism needs to be stopped and if you tell a kid on a catholic university that they speak ebonics you need to be fired asap

I might know who this is, and I've always respected you brother. your comments on both Henner and Smitty are spot on, both great people (not good, great). If I was coaching a HS kid, I'd recommend GT in a heartbeat, with either of those at the helm

What did you just say? It is very difficult to read as one long, long sentence.

Here's the thing. this girl is on the cross country team, so G-Town being a distance school shouldn't matter to her. it actually to her advantage, and she's getting more attention. Don't know why shes crying about sprinters gear when she is not in fact a sprinter.
