I posted something similar in the other thread where someone was irritated the Brojos used the word "admit" in the Levins article. I'm not so interested in bickering about whether or not Levins has asthma because of inhalers but more because of the potential for him to take prednisone for his "asthma" and then need testosterone as a TUE when his testosterone numbers plummet because of the prednisone.
For those who are curious: a little bit of pred (7.5 mg daily, just above physiologic replacement) drops down testosterone levels. It's been known since the late 70s:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/488427I'd like to see him on the record about what his asthma meds are and how often/how many times he's taken prednisone since joining NOP. And if he has ever taken testosterone or any other med for "low testosterone levels" since joining NOP.
Levins said he's not taking any prescription drugs other than for asthma. Testosterone is not prescribed for asthma.
Prednisone is only prescribed for extreme cases when conventional asthma meds are not controlling the symptoms. Typically dosing is 3-7 days, anywhere from 10-60mg and would not significantly impact T levels. Some people with uncontrolled and life threatening asthma are prescribed dosages for months, but the side effects are very unpleasant, and will impact T levels. I was on Pred for 1 week and was very relieved when it ended, not fun, felt like crap, couldn't image running like Levins does on a long term dosage. Huge disparity in response though.
Still, i agree, would like to know what Levins is taking, if only to model my own meds after him!
At one time i had a list of what Rupp takes but i've lost it, i recall there were two "normal" meds like Flovent or Advair and normal rescue inhaler of Albuteral, plus an off label use of a drug more typically used for COPD, but COPD and asthma are symptomatically very similar. Sport med docs prescribe off label use meds all the time, e.g. nitroglycerine normally used for angina is now used as a topical agent for achilles tendonosis to open up capillaries for greater blood flow to injury site.
