HS Runner wins 4/8/16/32 at state meet.

I don't think calling his performance "Webb-esque" is wrong. That's not saying that he's as good as Webb, just that he's run some times that are similar to Webb's. Obviously he's not at that level but it definitely looks like he's got the talent to do great in college. And consider that he's run the 1600 in 4:10, and has barely run the 3200 in high school with little competition.

His nickname is "Turbo." Kid's got pizzazz.

"Time". Not plural. His 400m time is the only one even close, and that is neither athletes' main or secondary events.

And I am not earing the kid down, just the OP for thinking this is a great feat. We have had single athletes win the state meet, but of course that was because they were in the smallest of classes.

The kid has a future in the 800m for sure. If he can get stronger in way of endurance, maybe the 1500m.

He could be great at anything 1500 through 10000 but not at UCLA.

JG will ruin him and keep him in the 800 forever.

These are times for this ONE MEET.

His bests put him 3rd all time in the 400, 2nd all time in the 800, 4th All time in the 1600 (his 3200 is still out of the ranking but oh well).

Hartle seems like a good dude with a strong future. Let's promote American runners instead of tearing the down.

His 400 puts him 3rd ALL time in NJ? Heck, to break the top 50, you have to run under 47.50.

His 1:49.91 puts him 10th on the ALL-time NJ list.

4:18 gets him nowhere all-time. It's #20 in the state - this YEAR so far. 9:28 is #27 this year so far in NJ.

Hartle is a very good runner - looks to be a great talent at 400m and 800m, with some good range above.

But it's not ripping him to point out that while his 400 and 800 are national class times, his other events wouldn't rate him very highly in a state with strong competition.

Would he be a stud in NJ? Sure. But he wouldn't win 4 events. Winning 2 would be unlikely this year, and there's a good chance that he wouldn't even win one.

He ran 4:10 in the 1600 last year. What kind of racer is he? How much of that 47 point 400 speed can he turn into a ferocious kick? Withhold judgement until he gets into some big races against other fast guys, IMO. Who knows what a 4:18 or 9:28 means when there's no one pushing him in either race.

Your post lost all credibility with that last line. You don't think he could win the 800 or 1600 if that was his one and only race/focus? We are all speculating here but I believe he would win the 800, 1600 or 3200 in NJ if that was his one focus all season long and the only race he ran at the state meet.

Austin Mudd triple at Indiana state meet last year was more impressive to me....

It's all about location, location, location. Average altitude in Reno is 4400 feet. That is a huge difference than at sea level in everything except the short sprints.
