No one has said that they are afraid to say Merry Christmas.
Several have asked why one would wish Merry Christmas to someone elso who does not celebrate Christmas, e.g. a Muslim or Jew.

The implication of your original post was that folks saying "happy holidays" were obviously saying the same thing as saying "merry Christmas". Clearly they are not.

Didn't read this whole thread but the whole concept seems really stupid. I really don't care what phrase a person or business uses to greet me during the holidays!
Happy Hollidays, Merry Christmas I really don't care but I appreciate a greeting. I would never try and get another person or business to use a certain greeting to me.
