Well that's my point--that it's a little tougher when you run for your school team as opposed to just for yourself and having your training and your schedule completely personalized for you (like a pro).
In the end, the ends justifies the means. 8:29 is what will be etched forever in the record books (not all these nit picky arguments of his season, his personal rabbit, his age, his nationality, etc.).
And what about school team coaches who are absolute dilettantes (at least, some of them)? What about 20x400m workout at the first ever training session not even asking what athlete did a month, a week or even a day ago? If he is not training with a HS team he is not allowed to compete!
If you need a heart surgery, who would you choose to perform it,- a nurse, who has seen how it's done, just to make a point that it's possible?!!!
Isn't it EVERYBODY has to do anything, whatever he does, as a pro?
And as you mentioned, what does nationality has to do with a HS record? Is it being 18 disqualify somebody from holding a HS record?
It was my opinion. My kid will beat all but maybe 10 kids in the country so I don't think that to bad. It was more of point that most kids don't get the same chance to perform at their best. My grandfather was from Germany he wasn't American. I was born here and I am American. I also said he ran a good race so I wasn't trying to take the record away. Just stating my opinion. The rest I want to say to you I hope you can figure out because you can insult people on here without the fear of having you head crushed.....................

I have a choice as to what I am impressed with in life. Most of the time it is the people who overcome the obstacles that life gives us, yet we still achieve. I'm sorry that growing up on a track with parents who coach and have competed and seeing their kids have success isn't as impressive as the parents who have a kid with no history or help. Lukas is a great runner, just not American and just what I would have expected given his body type and his family history. Sorry, I think I’m going to root for the kid from Indiana................

I think Lukas ran a great race, he just isn't American! Like I was saying in another post he is a great runner just didn't have to do it in the same races other kids do. Maybe there should be a record for a race on a high school team as opposed to running with the group Lukas ran with.

A lot of this slicing and dicing of putative records seems so silly. There were a number of excellent performances by young runners yesterday, including an 8:14 two-mile by a 17-year-old and a 3:49 mile by an 18-year-old. I don't particularly care what country any of these kids were born in, what country they currently reside in, what country they are currently citizens of, or whether they happen to be currently enrolled in something called "high school." (In fact, the one kid who is apparently being credited with a "high school" record for his 8:29 two-mile performance seems to have graduated from high school over a week earlier. I gather that there is some sort of grace period within which high school graduates can still set U.S. high school records, and I'm sure that people have come up with various justifications for adhering to that fiction.)
I don't know any of these kids. I've seen one or two brief interviews with LV, and he seems like a good guy with a good head on his shoulders. I have no idea whether he is a "better" two-miler than German or Gerry at the same age or the same stage of his academic life, and I don't much care. Gerry was a fascinating and inspirational little guy, and in my mind he remains so, regardless of what times are recorded in later decades by other young runners. I hope that some of the current crop of young runners will capture the imaginations of others in their own way.
Why not just adjust the times for white kids, then everyone can run and it will come out the same, say for example, 1.5 seconds a lap. So if a white kid runs 8:41, minus 12 seconds, bingo-- 8:29!! Or if the kids are poor white trash then minus 2 seconds a lap, but if they're poor Mexicans then add a second a lap. Therefore 8:50 white becomes 8:34, but 8:34 Mexican becomes 8:42.

I agree, just don't like how everyone needs to attach some other great title to it. It was a great run and I know that he works very hard to achieve that time. My kid isn't trying to be the best small school runner or the best big school, just the best runner. We don't talk about the age either, again just being the fastest at what ever event it is at the time.
When was the last time a national high school record was set at a high school competition?
Now, that is what I would like to see. Let it happen at a school meet.
Congrats to L.V., american or not , high school competition or not, as the saying goes " he ran what he ran" and it was 5 seconds faster than the old record, the kid's a hell of a runner!!!

Who gives a f*** if Lukas is not American or was not born here? I would say over 90% of America is from immigrant families. Matter of fact all white,black,hispanic and so on and so forth people are from different countries. The only people that can really lay claim as America being their land is the NATIVE AMERICANS.
